  • On the Learning Commons Digital Art Wall: Every 40 Seconds …

    The He-ART-Istic Journey highlights individual patient experiences of heart disease in a creative and artistic encounter. This arts-informed dissemination presents science and art together in what promises to be a unique glimpse into the lives of individuals who live daily with cardiac disease. We used an arts-based creative research analysis -the ABELE method- [Arts-Based Embodied Layered Exploration] to translate the experiences of 23 individuals’ journeys through symptom recognition of heart disease. Key words and phrases were extracted from the interviews and constructed into 4 poems. Patients’ stories were interpreted and art was created to represent the early warning signs of heart disease and individuals illness experience.

  • Brock University Award for Open Access

    Nominations are now open for the Brock University Award for Open Access which will recognize a member of the Brock community who is a champion of open access. Relevant qualifications could include a demonstrated record ofopenly sharing research, participating in projects or platforms advancing open access, or conducting research into open access.

    The award includes a grant of $2,500 which may be used either:

    1. to pay an article-processing charge for an open-access journal, or
    2. as a donation to support a non-profit open scholarship platform.

    Applications/nominations are due Sept. 27, 12:00 p.m. Entries will be judged by a panel including Library employees and past Open Access Award winners. The winner will be announced during an Oct. 21 event celebrating International Open Access Week.

  • On Display: Getting Graphic: 50+ Years of Representing Brock

    Located at the Thistle entrance to the Learning Commons, the display cases feature past logos for Brock Athletics, the University Coat of Arms, a classic ad from Time Magazine and even a nod to Star Wars!

    Intrigued? Stop by the exhibit and learn the strategy behind some of the University’s most successful promotional campaigns. Getting Graphic runs to Friday, September 13.

  • Welcome to Brock: Thorold and St. Catharines Libraries On-Site!

    We love libraries! All kinds. As part of Welcome Week events at Brock, the Library is partnering with the Thorold and St. Catharines Public Libraries to provide the Brock community with public library cards. Getting a card is easy as representatives from both libraries will be on-site Thursday, September 5. Fill in a form, present some i.d. and then you’ll be all set to borrow video games, join book clubs, experience adult craft nights, and more.

    Here’s how to access courses of interest to you:

    Go to Lynda.com
    Click on the menu on the top of the screen.
    Click Sign In.
    Click the Sign in with your organization portal link.
    Enter brocku.ca and click Continue.
    Sign in with your Brock credentials. Enter your Brock username and password and click the Log in button.

  • Two new databases currently available to test

    Brock users are invited to access the content and test out the functionality of the HeinOnline and Academic Video Online databases during a trial period to last several weeks.

    HeinOnline Academic Core Canada contains treaties, constitutions, case law, world trials, classic treatises, international trade, foreign relations, and much more.

    Trial access is available until August 16, 2019. Feedback on this database may be sent to lmorrison@brocku.ca

    Academic Video Online bills itself as “the most comprehensive video subscription available to libraries. It delivers more than 67,000 multidisciplinary video titles including 14,000 exclusive to Alexander Street. All with a predictable annual cost, this collection is curated for the educational experience. The massive depth of content and breadth of content-types (such as documentaries, films, demonstrations, etc) in Academic Video Online makes it a useful resource for all types of patrons, giving libraries a high return on investment.

  • On Display: Origins of Niagara’s Winescapes

    When enjoying a glass of wine from the Niagara region, have you ever thought, how did this wine come to be? The Origins of Niagara’s Winescape exhibit features artifacts from the Brock University Archives the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute. The exhibit explores the lasting legacy of Niagara’s wineries – from the first grape growers in the 1850s to the present. The exhibit runs until the end of July in the James A. Gibson Library, and will then move to the Brock University Archives.

  • We’ve expanded our games collection

    Monopoly is just one of many games we have available for Loan

    In an effort to encourage student mental health and wellness, the Library has expanded its games and stressbusters collection.  Items are available for three day loan from both the Map, Data & GIS Library and the James A. Gibson Library (at the Ask Us Desk).

    In time for the fall semester, a Wellness book collection, and additional resources will be ready for use by all Brock students, staff and faculty.
