There’s always help available in the Makerspace.

Book a Consultation

Get support with making your designs come to life! We’ll guide you through the appropriate steps ensuring your designs are print or carve ready. Individual appointments are available to anyone. To book an consultation:

  1. Fill out our Request Support Form.  Tell us about your project (what model or design are you working on?).
  2. One of our staff members will follow up via email to confirm your appointment.

Attend a Virtual Drop-In Session

Throughout the year, we host several virtual drop-ins for anyone to join. These sessions are a great space to bring your ideas to life, connect with other makers across campus, and get advice from our knowledgeable staff. Check out our ExperienceBU page for upcoming virtual drop-ins.

Beginner

These will serve as great starting points for getting into this discipline. Easy-to-follow and not overly complex, they foster strong learning environments and introduce core concepts that are integral to the craft.

    • This is a perfect starter tool for any level of basic 3D modelling. With their own lists of tutorials and all your work stored online, you can start building from anywhere!
  • SketchUp 2020 Essential Training
    • An excellent tool for constructing mock-ups of various building layouts, this is a great tool for building prototyping interior layouts and reconstruction.

Advanced

These serve as more complex, industry-tier software with more features to create more refined work. These are good ways to challenge your craft and help to refine your established skills and generate professional looking work.

  • Maya Essential Training
    • A powerful modelling tool for more organic-type modelling, such as people and creatures.
  • Fusion 360 Essential Training
    • A more mathematical/inorganic modelling tool meant for building exact replicas and models of real-world components or objects.
  • 3DS Max Essential Training
    • A blend of both organic and inorganic modelling, this tool lends itself well to interior design and building layouts.
  • Blender 2.83 Essential Training
    • A free tool that focuses on organic modelling with many robust features putting it nearly on equal footing to Maya.

  • Producing Podcasts
    • A good introduction into what makes a podcast from pre-production to post-production. Learn about the technology and environments you can use to give your podcast a quality sound.

  • Adobe Audition CC 2019 Essential Training
    • A more intermediate audio editing software, this contains extensive features a stronger variety of effects and tools to refine one’s audio to give a professional sound.
  • Pro Tools First 2019 Essential Training
    • A more advanced music production software, this grants access to more instruments and features allowing you more space to maneuver and customize your sound.

    • Another free online vector drawing software. Learn to craft images for all forms of platforms from social media to business cards.
