• Introducing Digital Theatre Plus

  Dim the lights and enjoy a live theatre experience! The Brock Library is excited to provide access to Digital Theatre Plus, a resource that provides streaming access to over 300 live theatre productions from companies such as The Old Vic and The Royal Shakespeare Company, with new content added each month.

  In addition to productions, Digital Theatre Plus includes the following:

  • Study Guides written by practicing actors and theatre faculty (e.g. A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
  • Documentaries such as the BBC Shakespeare Uncovered – David Tennant on Hamlet and Christopher Plummer King Lear
  • Audio recordings from LA Theatre Work
  • Interviews with costume and set designers, directors, and actors

• New Resource: Drama Online

  Drama Online is a collection of more than 1,300 plays from Methuen Drama, Faber and Faber, as well as the Arden Shakespeare. Features of the Core Collection to which Brock subscribes include:

  • The ability to find a play or monologue based on the # of roles, setting, playwright, etc. (great for planning a production or choosing a monologue for an audition)
  • Images from the Victoria and Albert Museum Performance Archive
  • Play tools that visually indicate how many lines and in what scenes each character appear

• New Resource: Vogue Archive

  The Vogue Archive offers access to the complete digital run of the iconic American magazine, from 1894 to the current year.  Each issue, in its entirety (including covers, advertisements and fold-outs) is available in beautiful, high-quality colour and has been extensively indexed, providing unique search features such as garment type, designer name, person pictured, and more.

  From intimate photographs of the Kennedys at home at Hyannis Port in the early 1960s to an interview with poet Robert Frost, the Archive offers a glimpse into the society and culture of the United States for more than 100 years.

• New Resource: The Gerritsen Collection

  For research on the history of women’s organizations, the development of feminist thought, and the struggle for women’s rights, we have a fantastic new resource: the Gerritsen Collection of Aletta H. Jacobs.

  Aletta Jacobs was a Dutch physician and feminist who, along with her husband C.V. Gerritsen, began collecting information on women’s issues in the late 1800s. Those works have now been digitized, allowing instant access to this unique collection of rare books, periodicals, and other primary sources. Overall, the collection contains more than 4,500 publications from the U.S., the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, and continental Europe.

  Widely considered the definitive cross-cultural resource for information on women’s history, the Gerritsen Collection spans more than four centuries and 15 languages and includes over two million scanned pages. Trace the evolution of feminism within a single country, as well as the impact of that country’s feminist movement on other countries and their movements.

• Enhanced Access to Nature Journals

• New eBook Subscription gives Brock Researchers Access to Oxford’s Clinical Psychology Collection.

  Oxford Clinical Psychology: a collection of over 300 essential titles covering a range of specialties, disorders, and treatments in the field of clinical psychology, is now available to Brock University researchers.The extensively vetted collection is made up of key reference works, seminal scholarly and research titles, and renowned therapist guides and workbooks. Available through an annual subscription, Brock researchers have unlimited online access to these titles in ebook format and also have the option to download chapters to their own personal devices for permanent long term retrieval.

  This online collection of books will appeal to Brock faculty and students in Psychology, Applied Disability Studies, Child and Youth Studies, Education, and Applied Health Sciences.

• New Resource: Open Book Publishers

  Open Book Publishers offers more than 100 freely accessible scholarly e-books covering multiple disciplines including Humanities (art, music, classics, history), Social Sciences (economics, sociology, education) and Science (environmental studies,  mathematics, history of science). Users can read PDF/HTML versions online on an easy-to-navigate platform. Some titles permit free PDF downloads; readers can also pay to order a print copy.

  Based in the UK, this non-profit publisher has a collaborative business model based on libraries paying a modest annual membership fee. Brock Library has chosen to invest in this innovative project to reflect our commitment to improving access to knowledge for all and transforming a dysfunctional scholarly publishing system.

• New Resource: Readers’ Guide Full Text Mega

  The new Readers’ Guide Full Text Mega database is a modern version of the well-known Readers’ Guide to Periodical Literature.  It is an online database that contains 100% full text of articles from over 250 magazines dating back to 1994, along with indexing for over 450 magazines dating back to 1982.  It is a multi-disciplinary source, and its coverage spans art, business, education, entertainment, health, literature, news, politics, popular culture, religion, science, sports, travel, and more.

  This database is good for tracking how ideas are described in general, practice-oriented, and popular sources of information over time, as well as for current events coverage, and for researching background information across many subject areas.

• New Resource: The Lyell Collection Comes to Brock

  The Lyell Collection is an online digital collection comprising the Geological  Society of London’s full-text journal articles, Special Publications, Memoirs, and journals published on behalf of other societies dating back to 1811. The database named after the eminent nineteenth-century geologist Charles Lyell (1797-1875) includes new content from 7 key journals, current peer reviewed papers, maps and historical commentaries from notables including Darwin, Scott, Shackleton, Amundsen, etc.
