Laurie pursued a career in librarianship because the core values of the profession spoke to her own social justice-oriented values and beliefs, among which is the necessity for the provision of unfettered access to information as a foundation of a just and democratic society. This directly speaks to her passion for open access publishing which aims to provide free and immediate online access to anyone throughout the world to all published research and scholarship. She has held many positions in the Brock library since joining in 2006 and currently holds the position of Collection Librarian.
