Presented annually by the Brock University Alumni Association, the following awards are reviewed by the Recognition of Excellence Committee and chosen based on their individual criteria.

Award Categories

The Distinguished Alumni Award identifies and honours Brock University graduates who have earned prominence as a result of their exceptional professional achievements and/or service to society. The recognition of accomplished alumni promotes the excellence of the University, its graduates and the Alumni Association.

This award was implemented in 2002 and is presented annually. Nominees of this prestigious award are asked to provide nominators with information regarding achievements and/or awards relating to their commitment to their profession, community and to Brock University. The BUAA Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually during the Alumni Recognition Reception at Homecoming weekend.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Alumnus/a of Brock University
  • Graduates of diploma and certificate programs are eligible
  • The successful candidate must be available for the presentation of the award during Homecoming weekend

Application Procedures
A complete nomination package for the Award must include the following at minimum:

  • Completed nomination form
  • Covering letter from the nominator
  • Minimum of one (1) letter of support

In their covering letter, nominators must address in what way the nominee’s achievements are extraordinary, as they pertain to the award.  The letter should also detail how the individual has contributed in an outstanding and meaningful way to his/her community. It is suggested that letters come from individuals who have either benefited from or who have first-hand knowledge of the nominee’s community activities.

This award was implemented to celebrate individual faculty alumni who have earned prominence as a result of their exceptional professional achievements and/or service to society. Established in 2015, this award recognizes a Brock University graduate under 35 years of age in the first decade of his/her career who has made a significant impact in their chosen field. The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is given out during the Grad Send-off event each spring to celebrate the graduating class.

The Brock University Alumni Association (BUAA) Award for Community Engagement recognizes a Brock alumnus/a who has made outstanding contributions to his/her community, and in doing so, has enriched the lives of others.

This award honours one extraordinary alumnus/a who has set a high standard for community service and who has made a significant contribution as a volunteer to their community.

The award will be presented at the BUAA’s Recognition of Excellence annual celebration that takes place during Homecoming.

Selection Criteria
The recipient will be an individual who has done exceptional work in their community (locally, nationally or globally). The BUAA will take into account the nominee’s volunteer contributions to civic and charitable causes.

  • The successful candidate must be available for the presentation of the award during Homecoming weekend

The David Betzner Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated loyalty and commitment to their alma mater by supporting Brock University and/or the Alumni Association through continuous dedicated volunteer service.

Brock University will recognize one Brock alumnus/a annually who has contributed to the growth and success of Co-op by being instrumental in developing quality opportunities for Brock Co-op students.

This annual award honours one extraordinary alumnus/a who has contributed to the success of Brock Co-op by being a champion of co-op within his/her organization, serving as a mentor to co-op students and going above and beyond to help his alma matter promote Brock Co-op. The award is presented jointly by Brock Co-op and the Brock Alumni office and will be presented during the National Co-op Week annual celebration.

Selection Criteria

The recipient will be an individual who has consistently promoted and been an advocate for Brock students in co-op and contributed to the personal and professional development of Brock’s students while on work term.

Application Procedures
