Court
Games use the outer badminton lines
Scoring
- Games are played to 11 points, win by 2
- Only the team serving
- Score must be called aloud before each serve: Aloud: “Serving team’s score – Receiving team’s score – Serving Number”
- Both players on a doubles team serve each turn (Except to start the game)
- At the start of the game, only one player on the first serving team serves (Score starts 0-0-2)
- After a first fault by the serving team, the serve switches to the second partner
- After both players fault, the serve goes to the other team
Double Bounce Rule
- The receiving team must let the serve bounce once before returning
- The serving team must then let the return bounce once
- After this, the ball may be hit in the air (volley) only outside the No-Volley Zone
Serving
- Must be underhand, contacting the ball below the hips
- The server must stand behind the baseline.
- Serve diagonally into the adjacent service box.
- One serve attempt only: If out, into net, or into the No-Volley Zone (kitchen) → side out.
- Lines are in on the serve, except: If the ball lands on the No-Volley line, it is out/side out
- If the serve hits the net but lands in the correct service box → let, replay the serve.
- In doubles, serving always begins on the right side.
No-Volley Zone (Kitchen / NVZ)
- The NVZ extends 7 feet from the net on both sides
- Players cannot volley (hit out of the air) while inside the NVZ
- A player may hit inside the NVZ only after the ball bounces
- If a player is hit by the ball while standing in the NVZ before it bounces, they lose the point
- If a player volleys outside the NVZ but their momentum carries them into the zone, they lose the point
- Touching the NVZ line = considered inside the zone.
- You may reach over the line as long as your feet do not touch it.
- If a serve lands on the NVZ line, the server loses the point.
