General

The Walker Sports Complex is located at the west side of the Brock campus.

Note: As of Fall 2020, we will not be offering any swim lessons as per Brock University 5 stages of pandemic recovery.

To register, you may visit the Welcome Desk in the Walker Sports Complex in person, call 905 688 5550 x4060, or register online. If you are phoning to register, please have your VISA or Mastercard number and expiry date available.

Note: All Fall 2020 Varsity competitions have been cancelled by the OUA and USports due to the pandemic.  The Department of Brock Sports website is found at gobadgers.ca  – game schedules are included on the website.

Facility hours

The Walker Complex is generally closed on statutory holidays. However, the Walker Complex is sometimes open for reduced hours even when the rest of the university is closed.

Parking

Covid-19 Update Fall 2020

Brock University is currently not offering any non-Brock student programming at the Walker Sports Complex.  As Brock moves through it’s 5 – stages of return to campus plan, we will communicate when we can begin to offer programs.

 

If you are registered for a Recreation program, including swim lessons, you may park in Lot B at no charge during your lesson.  Go to the Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk the first day of lessons, bring your license plate number, and you will be given a parking hang tag.

Lot P is located to the west of the front entrance of the Walker Complex, and is a coin/credit card lot.

For those from the community who are registered through Brock Recreation for courses, you are eligible for a complimentary parking pass valid during your classes. This allows you to park in Lot B, and not have to worry about paying each time. The  passes are available at the Welcome Desk in the Walker Complex. These passes are not available to Brock students, staff or faculty.

Brock University is currently not offering any non-Brock student programming or facility use at the Walker Sports Complex.  As Brock moves through its’  5 – stages of return to campus plan, we will communicate when we can begin to offer programs.

 

Admission to the Walker Sports Complex facilities including the Zone fitness centre requires the purchase of a membership or a day pass. 10-time passes for either the pool or the full facility are also available. Memberships are available to the following groups:

a) Current Undergraduate students:
All current Brock University undergraduate students may use the facilities listed below with advanced registration for facility use. In the Fall of 2020, due to restrictions because of Covid-19, the following facilities will be available to Brock students, with advanced registration required:  Alternate Zone (in Beddis gym, Court 1), badminton and basketball (shooting) in Beddis gym, 50 m pool, outdoor tennis courts, outdoor fields.  On-line fitness and intramural activities are available for all students, and limited in-person programs will occur in the fall.

b) Current Brock University graduate students
All current Brock University graduate students may use the facilities listed below with advanced registration for facility use. A membership is required to use the Walker Sports Complex and may be purchased at the Welcome Desk. Several membership options are available!

d) High School Students (ages 14-18)
During the summer months of May-August, high school students may purchase a facility/Zone membership by showing a current student ID at the Welcome Desk.

Go to the Equipment Room to get the appropriate identifying wristband. Note: we will look up your membership twice per membership term; after that, you must pay $2.00 every time you forget your card. It is your responsibility to have your card with you.

Note:  There are no lockers available for use in Fall 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Inside the change rooms and outside the Zone are pay-per-use coin lockers (50 cents). There are also day-use lockers (no locks on them) inside the change rooms that you may use while you work out.

Bring your own lock or rent one at the Equipment Room for the day ($2), we also sell combination locks at the Central Equipment Room (Cage) and the Welcome Desk for $8. We have limited lockers available for rent by the term; ask at the Welcome Desk for sale dates.

Zone Fitness Centre

Note: In Fall 2020, equipment is available to Brock Students only.  You must pre-register for your date and time prior to coming to Brock University.

 

Yes, when you enter the Zone, there is a binder on the desk, where you can sign up 3 days in advance for cardio machines. Each machine is numbered, so check the machine to ensure you are on the correct one.

Note:  In Fall 2020 we have a number of virtual classes available to you – visit https://brocku.ca/recreation/fitness-programs/ for classes.

 

Yes! You may sign up in advance for spinning classes in the binder at the Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk to reserve your bike.

Fitness classes are generally held in the fitness studio, aqua fitness classes are held in the pool. All fitness classes require advance sign-up in the appropriate binder on the Welcome Desk.

If your machine has no electrical plug, energy is generated by your movement, so keep moving and then press the machine’s start button. If the machine does have a plug, ask a trainer for assistance.

Ask the person using the station if you may “set in” or “work in” with them. Or you can do another exercise while waiting. Alternatively, the trainers can suggest a different, comparable exercise to try.

Aquatics

Note: In Fall 2020, the pool is available for Brock students to use.  You must book your date and time in advance athttps://brocku.ca/recreation/fitness-programs/.

Children under 6 years old must be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian* who is responsible for their direct supervision. Maximum of 2 children/guardian.

Children 6-9 who are non-swimmers must by accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian* who is responsible for their direct supervision. Ratio 4 children/guardian.

Children 6-9 who are swimmers, may be admitted to the pool unaccompanied. Parent or guardian* must be in the pool gallery. The child will be asked to demonstrate their swimming ability by completing the facility swim test—two widths of the pool without stopping. One width of the pool is equal to 18.5 metres.

*Guardians must be at least 12 years of age.

Tots in the pool must wear specially designed commercial swim diapers. No cloth or disposable diapers are allowed.
