Brock’s sport-club athletes were celebrated in a night of recognition and achievement.
The ten Badgers sport clubs were recognized at the 2024-25 Sport Clubs Awards Banquet that took place on Tuesday, April 1 at Pond Inlet.
The ball hockey team won the Ballhockey.com men’s league top division title this past season while also finishing second at the World Outdoor Ball Hockey Championships.
Cheer competed against elite teams from around the globe at the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cup Cheerleading Championships and placed second in the gameday division at the national championships.
Powerlifting and both ultimate teams participated at their respective national championships, the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) National Championships and Canadian Ultimate University Championships (CUUC), which was highlighted by the men’s ultimate team earning a third-place finish in Division II.
Out of 26 universities, the Badgers dance pak placed in the top six at all three competitions.
At the Ontario Collegiate Equestrian Association (OCEA) Finals, two Badgers (Kilby Deforest, Melanie Stec) placed first while Sofia Kuypers captured the champion title in her division.
The women’s flag football placed third at provincials in the fall and are set to compete at the spring provincial competition this coming weekend, while the ringette club earned a spot at the Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships by being one of the top eight teams in the province.
Badminton completed their first year by competing at three tournaments, gaining valuable experience for the program’s bright future.
Madison Clarke and Jonah Stuckless headlined the award winners at the annual Sport Clubs Awards Banquet.
Clarke from the equestrian club earned the Sport Club Excellence Award which is awarded to a sport-club athlete with outstanding contributions to their sport, teammates and Brock University Athletics, while excelling within academia.
Excelling both academically and athletically, Clarke demonstrated exceptional leadership by managing logistics, organizing events and fostering a positive atmosphere for their teammates while also succeeding as an honour roll student who has earned numerous Brock Scholars Awards.
The Sport Club Legacy Award is awarded to a sport-club athlete with outstanding contributions to their sport, teammates and Brock Athletics, while graciously volunteering their time and passion to better both Brock University and surrounding community.
Stuckless was this year’s recipient who has demonstrated undeniable passion for the sport of badminton by contributing countless hours in founding and running the first-year club. His efforts include spearheading initiatives like school tournaments and community clinics, creating opportunities for athletes of all levels to engage with the sport and further the program’s growth.
