When thinking about accessibility considerations in your Brightspace course shell design, please refer to the questions below. Note that some of these question prompts may be more appropriate to your course than others depending on your teaching context.
- Is there an introductory section in Brightspace that highlights where information can be found? This can also be supplemented with a short 2-minute overview video.
- Is the instructor’s preference for how to be contacted and contact information (email, Office hours) listed in Brightspace?
- Are there regularly posted announcements (weekly for example) about assignments or expectations?
- Does the organization of the information align with the course structure? For example, are there numbered or weekly modules?
- Does the information in the individual modules follow a consistent pattern? For example, do they start with learning outcomes or a high-level overview which continues with other resources and information.
- Is there a section with useful links for learners to Brock areas and supports like Student Accessibility Services (SAS) or Learning Services?
- Are the resources and readings linked and open or connected to Brock Library availability?
- Are there opportunities for peer-to-peer sharing in Brightspace such as through discussion board posts?
- Do the assignments have information on how to complete the assignment, grading rubrics, and due dates?
- Are there multiple means of representation in the content provided such as multimodal resources (captioned videos or podcasts with transcripts)?
