We also support teaching and learning through workshops, communities of practice, reading groups, one-on-one and group consultations, drop-in hours, classroom observation opportunities, and online resources, among others. If you explore our website and don’t find what you need, complete the Request Support form, and we can develop just-in-time resources or offer sessions specific to your needs. 

CPI further promotes excellence in teaching and learning at Brock through internal and external teaching awards, the Tribute to Teaching event, an annual Spring Perspectives in Teaching and Learning conference, and other events. You can learn more through the Events & Important Dates section of our website.  

Core Areas of Support

The Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic manages and provides key procedural and administrative support for all Quality Assurance processes, including IQAP Cyclical Program Reviews, Major Modifications, New Programs, and Program Discontinuations at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  

The CPI can help with curriculum needs within these processes, as well as provide ad-hoc support for curriculum development and renewal, course design, and learning outcomes. Visit our Curriculum Support page for more information and resources.

In partnership with the Experiential Education team in CCEE, CPI supports efforts to integrate experiential education throughout graduate and undergraduate curricula. Visit our Experiential Education webpage for more information and resources. 

CPI supports both scholarly teaching (the use of evidence to inform practice) and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), which can take many forms including empirical methods, action research, and documenting reflective practice. CPI can support your SoTL endeavours through consultations, methodological guidance, support for dissemination, resource provision, and community connections.  

Brock University has an impressive and productive community engaged in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and supports SoTL projects through the Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence. 

In addition to Brock-specific teaching and teaching assistant awards, CPI also supports the preparation of applications to external awards such as the 3M Teaching Fellowship from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE).  

For those interested in completing a specific teaching & learning project or initiative, the CPI welcomes applications to the Teaching & Learning Innovation Grants, or the Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence for those wishing to conduct research on teaching and learning.

Whether you are a new instructor, teaching assistant, or tenured faculty member, documenting your teaching effectiveness should be part of your regular practice. The evidence you collect (materials, reflections, feedbackwill help make up your Teaching Dossier – a succinct document communicating your values, beliefs, practices, and accomplishments as a teacher. At a high-level, your dossier communicates who you are as a teacher, and demonstrates your effectiveness through a curated selection of evidence. Learn more about how to collect evidence for, and develop your dossier the CPI Developing Your Dossier webpage.
