The Master of Sport Management (MSM) is the first of its kind in Canada, offering an applied focus on sport management strategy and business intelligence, providing students with professional employment-related skills.
The MSM program was created to serve the needs of the modern sport business enterprise. Teaming up with the Goodman School of Business, this 12-month professional graduate program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to solve complex business challenges in the sport industry in Canada and abroad!
The Master of Sport Management (MSM) program is designed to prepare graduates from a range of undergraduate educational backgrounds to work in a variety of sport management-related professions, organizations and services in administrative, service delivery, leadership and facilitative roles. The MSM program provides an array of required courses as well as a full-credit practicum to prepare them for work and leadership roles in a variety of sport management-related settings.
The MSM degree includes 8 half (0.5) credit courses:

- MSMX 5P25 – Revenue Generation in Sport
- MSMX 5P26 – People and Culture Ecosystems in Sport
- MSMX 5P28 – Sport Integrity and Ethics
- MBAB 5P23 – Entrepreneurship
- MBAB 5P40 – Firm Performance Analytics
- MBAB 5P85 – Marketing Analytics and Intelligence
- MBAB 5P09 – Management Information Systems

One (1) required practicum course:
- MSMX 5F91 – Master of Sport Management Practicum
- 420 hours minimum during the Spring term
Students in the MSM program will be prepared to take on roles where they will be able to advance and influence the sport management field through the employment of excellent relational, leadership, and practice skills. In addition to offering exceptional business intelligence and analytics skills to organizations in the sport management industry, students can develop skills in program development, communication, and administration, preparing them to act as leaders in offering quality products and services to members of the sport management industry.
- Four-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), in Sport Management, Business Administration, Commerce and/or other related fields
- Applicants should have completed introductory undergraduate courses in: (sport) marketing, (sport) finance or accounting, and statistical analysis/quantitative methods/research methods.
- Applicants may also be considered for admission in exceptional circumstances, though additional coursework may be required

- Minimum 80% (A) in the last two years of study.

Funding: Our course-based / professional programs are typically self-funded; students are eligible to apply for internal awards and scholarships. Eligible graduate students can also apply for financial aid through programs such as the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP), or other similar provincial//territorial/international student aid programs.

Admission letter
Admission letters are issued by the Faculty of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Master of Sport Management Program. Admission letters are uploaded to your my.brocku.ca account, “Application Status” section.
Accepting your offer of admission
After receiving your admission letter, you will have 3 weeks to reply to our offer of admission. Please accept or decline our offer through your my.brocku.ca account.
Final Documents
Students accepting their offer of admission will need to provide official documents to finalize their admission. The documents that need to be submitted are listed as “Owing to Finalize Admission” on your my.brocku.ca account in the ‘Document Status’ section. Official final documents can be mailed to:

To facilitate the practicums and other experiential opportunities, there is a $200 experiential education fee for MSM students. This fee contributes to events like student orientation and community partner events, and guest speakers in a variety of courses.
Frequently asked questions
The MSM is a course based, professional graduate program. Students are not required to find a supervisor, as there is no research component to the program.
The MSM program is not funded. Students are eligible to apply for scholarships.
The MSM program is only offered full-time.
The entrance averages each year are solely dependent on the current applicant pool. You can still apply with an average less than 80%, but no less than 75% (B-).
Successful completion of four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), in Sport Management, Business Administration, Commerce and/or other related fields. Students must have completed course work in quantitative analysis, and business/sport analytics.

Application materials must all be submitted online. Mailed and/or faxed documents will not be accepted.
April 30th, however applications will be accepted and processed in the order they are received until the program is full.
The MSM practicum is completed in the Spring term and is a minimum of 420 hours in length.
Practicum experiences will be supervised by a full-time MSM program faculty member. This experience will provide students with the opportunity to transition from student to professional. Potential practicum sites include:

The data revolution in sport has been televised: from professional, to amateur, to community, and to global sport, advances in data collection, analysis, and information systems can be seen and heard throughout the industry. For sport management professionals, understanding how to leverage data and drive sport further into this new era is imperative.
The Master of Sport Management (MSM) has been created to prepare the next generation of sport leaders, training students to make data-informed decisions and to further drive the sport industry’s tremendous growth. Our program is the first of its kind in Canada, offered in partnership with the Goodman School of Business. Our students will take a shared curriculum, exploring advanced concepts in business intelligence, data mining, management, and visualisation, customer-relationship management, ethics, and strategy, capped by a 420-hour practicum working with industry partners.
