Internal scholarships and awards

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, there are a number of named donor awards available to our graduate students. Donor supported student awards and bursaries provide graduate students with a valuable resource and the opportunity to pursue the Brock experience. We thank our many alumni, friends, corporations, faculty and staff who have supported these awards and our students.

Graduate students are encouraged to apply for any of the awards, scholarships and bursaries for which they are eligible. To be eligible to apply for internal awards, scholarships, and bursaries, the graduate student must be registered as a full-time student. A student who is withdrawn from the university or has a change of status will have their scholarship eligibility reviewed and adjustments to their financial support.

Should no eligible student be researching within the narrowly defined geographic area described above, a major research paper on a topic as above within the Niagara Region will be considered. The recipient will donate a hard copy and electronic format of their paper, prior to their convocation ceremony, to the Niagara Historical Society. The student award recipient retains copyright to their major research paper while the Niagara Historical Society will have full, unrestricted and unimpeded reproduction rights to the document and may market it in pamphlet form or as part of an anthology. The award will be made based on academic merit.

Dual Diagnosis Scholarship$ 949.44Faculty of Social SciencesApplied Disability Studies/Child and Youth StudiesEntranceInternational Certificate Programme in Dual DiagnosisThis scholarship will be made to four (4) entering full-time graduate students and five (5) continuing full-time graduate students at Brock University who have achieve high academic standing. Of the entering awards, two (2) will be available to student studying within the Center for Applied Disabilities Studies (CADS) and two (2) will be available to students in Child and Youth Studies (CHYS). For the continuing awards, three (3) will be available to students studying within CADS and two (2) will be available to students in CHYS. If one of the departments does not have two students who meet the criteria in a given year, then the alternate department will be able to use the residual award(s) of the same nature (entering/continuing) in that given year. Awards will be given to students who are pursuing an applied disability project or thesis work pertaining to persons with intellectual disability who have concurrent challenges with mental health, behaviour, criminal justice, or issues related to the promotion of human rights. Applicants will be required to provide a two page outline (approx. 600 words) explaining a plan for their project and/or thesis focused in the areas listed above.
