Applying for Federal Direct Loans begins with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The only official site to complete the FAFSA is fafsa.gov (if you go to a site that charges a fee or asks for credit card information, you have gone to an incorrect site). The FAFSA must be completed every year, beginning October 1 for the following Fall semester.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
- E-sign a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) for each type of loan you wish to apply for and complete the Informed Borrower Information.
- Complete the appropriate mandatory Direct Loan Entrance Counselling/Informed Borrower Consent session.
- Submit the completed Direct Loan Checklist and Estimated Financial Assistance Disclosure Form and/or the completed Parent PLUS/Grad PLUS Direct Loan request form after all steps have been completed. DO NOT submit these forms if you have not completed a FASFAA, Mandatory Annual Promissory Note or are not yet fully registered for courses as you application will not be reviewed.
