  • Department of Biological Sciences Seminar Series presents: New insights into the mechanisms and functions of mitochondrial derived vesicles.

    Dr. McBride is a Professor at McGill University in the Montreal Neurological Institute. Her work focuses on the molecular mechanisms and function of mitochondrial dynamics. She has contributed to our understanding of the fundamental behavior of the mitochondria, including fusion, fission, and the generation of mitochondrial derived vesicles (MDVs).

    This seminar will focus on her recent work studying how mitochondrial derived vesicles play key regulatory roles contributing to cellular transitions, including metabolic, immune pathways, and cell death transitions. The discussion will include new work on MDV roles in Parkinson’s disease pathways that highlight the role of the mitochondria as a unique signaling platform in the cell.

    Undergraduate and graduate students are free to attend a trainee lunch with Dr. McBride from 11h45–12h45 prior to the seminar in room MC F237.

    Srushti Dhavalkumar Desai, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, will present the MRP (STAT 5P99) titled “Graph-Theoretical Analysis of Resting-State Functional Connectivity in the Human Brain: Weighted vs. Binary Representations” on Tuesday, November 4 at 11:30 am, in MC D404.
