Wet-Laboratory Coordinator
My passion lies in teaching and learning! Being a laboratory coordinator, the development of wet lab practices in the fields of Biological and Health Sciences has been the cornerstone of my professional engagement. These practices are aimed to provide hands-on training to undergraduate learners in various academic programs and expand their scientific skillset for a successful career.
I have the technical and pedagogical expertise in creating resources such as videos, presentations, manuals, quizzes, etc., and supervising teaching assistants on facilitating laboratory workshops, both in-person and virtually through online learning platforms. With a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Brock University (Ontario, Canada), I have spent the last ten years of my life learning and teaching a diverse range of biomolecular tools, biochemical and cellular/immunological assays, microbiological techniques, and physiological experiments.
Cell Culture: Bacterial cells, mammalian cell lines (lung carcinoma models: H460 and A549, and breast cancer models: MCF7 and 4T1), & insect cell lines (Sf9 and Sf21).
Molecular Cloning: DNA isolation and purification from bacterial and mammalian cells, PCR, restriction digestion, bacterial transformation, antibiotic and blue-white selection, & plasmid miniprep; viral plaque assay & heterologous protein expression using Baculovirus expression vector system; gel electrophoresis: agarose, SDS-PAGE, & native-PAGE.
Immunochemistry: Blood typing, complement activation assay, Western blot, ELISA, histochemistry, & β-hexosaminidase assay.
Cellular Imaging: Phase-contrast, fluorescent, & confocal microscopy.
Human Physiology: Electrophysiology – study of stimulus-response of skeletal muscles and nerves; respiratory physiology – study of ventilation parameters by spirometry; cardiac physiology; & endocrinology – study of insulin and glucagon in the regulation of glucose metabolism & study of hCG as an indicator of human pregnancy.
Protein Chromatography: IMAC, FPLC, SEC, & IEX.
Surface Chemistry: SPR, DPI, & FRET-based liposomal assays.
