Brian Leader, CPA, CA, Vice-President of Learning, Chartered Professional Accountants Ontario
A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Brian Leader worked at Campbell Sharp Chartered Accountants (now Grant Thronton LLP) before joining the Institute as Assistant Director of Education in 1984. Today, in the role of Vice-President of Learning, Brian speaks to students, teachers and a wide variety of audiences across the province on the benefits of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
Brian has been instrumental in identifying, planning and implementing numerous improvements to the CA education system in Ontario, including the recent development and implementation of the Institute’s university program accreditation process and the related establishment of CA/University Joint Centres for the advancement of accounting research and education.
Stephen McCourt, CPA, CA, Partner, Collins Barrow Toronto LLP
Stephen McCourt, CPA, CA, is a partner at Collins Barrow Toronto LLP. Collins Barrow is Canada's largest association of Chartered Accounting firms and the eighth largest group of chartered accountants in Canada with more than 40 offices from coast to coast. They serve companies from a cross section of industries and at all stages of their development from large publicly traded companies to emerging and owner managed businesses.
Stephen provides assurance services in the capital markets practice. Further, he is the co-lead of the IFRS transition for the clients of Collins Barrow Toronto and has been involved in providing training and services to the firm’s clients and staff. He earned his BAcc and MAcc at Brock University. He has experience in working in both public practice and industry allowing him to provide practical insights into business and accounting matters. He has presented at various conferences and training sessions and has a keen interest in education and learning.
John Zoccoli, CPA, CA, Tim Hortons Franchisee
A Native of the Niagara region, John Zoccoli graduated, with first class honours, from Brock University in 1986 with an Honours Bachelor of Administration degree in the Co-op Accounting program. Mr. Zoccoli began his career as an accountant for Dunwoody & Company Chartered Accountants but soon found himself returning to Brock University where he spent the next fourteen years in key administrative positions on campus. Mr. Zoccoli began his career at Brock University as the Internal Auditor from 1988 to1991, moving to Manager of Accounting Services from 1991 to 1995 and finally becoming Director of Finance from 1995 to 2002.
Currently, Mr. Zoccoli, a franchisee of Tim Hortons oversees administrative and financial functions for his family run operation of eight Tim Hortons stores in the Niagara region. His family run operation has sales of $14 million per year, employing more than 200 staff and serving an average of 15,000 customers each day.
In November of 2008, Mr. Zoccoli was the recipient of the Goodman School of Business' Distinguished Graduate Award which recognizes a former student who has excelled in business.
Ian Adamson, Ph.D., MBA, CPA, CA, Associate Professor, Accounting
Dr. Ian Adamson teaches courses with the emphasis on auditing, information systems, database engineering, and knowledge management. He worked with Coopers and Lybrand in the Hamilton office and obtained his CA designation in 1981. After some years in the industrial sector he joined Brock University in 1987. Ian obtained his Ph.D. in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo in 1993 and is one of the few university faculty members in Canada who has the CA.IT specialist designation. His research interests include auditing and information systems, and he is currently working on a graduate text for database engineering.
Sandra Felton, PhD., CPA, CA, Associate Professor, Accounting
Sandra Felton has been at Brock University since 1976. She is an Associate Professor of Accounting and obtained her PhD with a major in Accounting from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1988. She is a Chartered Accountant and a Doctoral Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. She was Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance from 1998 – 2003 and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs in the Goodman School of Business from 2003 - 2006.
Fayez A. Elayan, Ph.D. CPA, CGA
Professor Fayez A. Elayan joined Brock University in 2003; he earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in Finance and his MBA from University of Wisconsin (UWM), Madison, USA.
His research interests cover areas such as Merger and Acquisition and Corporate Restructuring, Credit Ratings, Corporate Taxation, Real Estate Investment Trust, Financial Reporting, Corporate Human Rights Performance, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility. Professor Elayan teaches subjects of Accounting Theory, Financial Accounting, Canadian Tax Management, Corporate Finance, Investments, and Corporate Governance.
He has published in journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Journal of Financial Research, Financial Review, Accounting and Finance, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Investment Management, among others.
