Stride Program
Take the next stride toward academic success.
The Stride Program supports students who want to improve their academic standing and strengthen their skills for success. This personalized, self-directed program provides one-on-one support from a Learning Skills Specialist to help you build effective academic strategies, strengthen confidence, and create a path forward.
How Stride Works
- Meet with a Learning Skills Specialist
- Complete an Academic Success Plan
- Participate in three academic support opportunities (e.g., workshops, consultations, or drop-in support)
- Complete a final reflection

STEP (STEP 0N00) Program
Build the skills and confidence to make the most of your first year at Brock.
STEP 0N00 is a non-credit course designed to help first-year students navigate the transition to university with confidence. Through small-group classes, hands-on activities, and opportunities to apply new strategies to your coursework, STEP helps you develop the skills you need to succeed academically and engage in the Brock community.
How It Works
STEP runs during the Fall term and includes:
- Two 90-minute on-campus classes each week in small-group, interactive sessions.
- Opportunities for one-to-one consultations as needed.
- Practical activities and assignments that allow you to apply strategies directly to your courses.
- Course materials provided through Brightspace.
All incoming Brock students are welcome to enrol in STEP 0N00. Students who are required to complete STEP as part of a conditional offer will have a spot reserved and will receive registration information directly from the Registrar’s Office.

BOOST (BOST 0N00) Program
Build your skills, regain your momentum, and continue your journey at Brock.
If you are facing academic suspension, BOOST (BOST 0N00) provides an alternative pathway that allows you to continue your studies at Brock while developing the skills and strategies you need for academic success.
BOOST is a non-credit, pass/fail course that combines small-group learning, practical skill development, and one-to-one support with a Learning Skills Specialist. While participating in BOOST, you can take a reduced course load of up to 3 credits (no more than 1.5 credits per term).
How it Works
BOOST runs during the Fall term and includes:
- Two 90-minute on-campus classes each week in small-group, interactive sessions.
- Opportunities for one-to-one consultations with a Learning Skills Specialist.
- Practical activities and assignments focused on building academic and self-management skills.
- Course materials provided through Brightspace.
- Mandatory attendance, participation, and satisfactory completion of course assignments.
To avoid academic suspension, you must successfully complete BOOST and achieve a minimum 60% overall average once three credits have been attempted. See the Academic Regulations for more information.

SETT Program
Build the skills to succeed as a student-athlete at Brock.
The Student-Athlete Education, Training and Transition (SETT) Program provides structured academic transition, skill development, and ongoing support to help varsity student-athletes balance the demands of university academics and high-performance sport.
SETT supports student-athletes throughout their Brock journey, with foundational transition support in Year 1 and personalized academic planning in Year 2 and beyond.
How It Works
Year 1: SETT 0N00
SETT 0N00 is designed to help incoming varsity student-athletes make a successful transition to university-level learning while balancing their athletic commitments.
The program includes:
- An in-person, one-hour seminar each week during the Fall and Winter terms.
- Regular academic support activities throughout the year, including at least one academic advising appointment.
- Practical strategies and activities focused on building effective academic habits and managing academic and athletic commitments.
- Course materials provided through Brightspace.
Eligibility: All incoming varsity student-athletes are required to take SETT 0N00.
Cost: Free for first-year varsity student-athletes.
Year 2: Athlete Academic Success Plan
SETT continues into Year 2 and beyond for varsity student-athletes who want to improve their academic standing.
Students will:
- Meet with a Learning Skills Specialist for a one-hour intake consultation.
- Develop a personalized Academic Success Plan.
- Access ongoing check-ins and support as needed throughout the Fall and Winter terms.

SETT helps you:
- Develop effective time-management, scheduling, organization, and study strategies that work around your athletic commitments.
- Build skills in goal setting, self-regulation, motivation, and accountability.
- Strengthen your ability to communicate, self-advocate, and seek support when needed.

Build your skills, connect with your community, and get recognized for your learning.
The Learning Services Certificate Program recognizes Brock students who actively engage in opportunities that support academic success, personal growth, and meaningful participation in the learning community.
Complete eligible workshops, events, and learning opportunities to earn specialized certificates in areas that interest you. You can earn multiple certificates throughout your time at Brock while developing valuable academic and transferable skills.
How It Works
The program is self-paced throughout the academic year and is open to all Brock students.
- Choose a certificate pathway that interests you.
- Complete four eligible learning opportunities within that pathway.
- Submit your certificate request once you’ve completed the requirements.
- Receive your certificate after Learning Services verifies your participation.
No registration is required. Simply participate in eligible Learning Services workshops and events.
