Community Engagement Events
Student Life offers a number of opportunities for students and communities to connect. Below are just a few of our main outreach opportunities. You can visit our events calendar to view past and present events hosted by Student Life or email us at community@brocku.ca for more information.
BROCK CARES: VOLUNTEER FAIR
We are pleased to share that our popular Brock Cares: Volunteer Fair will return this fall in a whole new way. This event is a great way to connect with passionate Brock students looking for opportunities to volunteer early in the academic year. The Fall 2021 Fair will be held virtually on September 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EDT. As a community partner you are invited to host a virtual “booth” to greet and connect with passionate students.
If you are interested in taking part, please complete this expression of interest form by August 23rd and we will be in touch with details on how to connect with the online platform.
Brock Cares: Volunteer Fair Expression of Interest
We will host a Hop In training for our participating partners on September 16 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. for you to familiarize yourself with the platform in advance of the event.
Brock Cares
Brock Cares Days of Service brings together Brock volunteers from across the University to contribute to the Niagara community by participating in service projects at local organizations throughout the region.
For 2020-2021 we have pivoted from this large in-person event to hosting virtual sessions. During an online Brock Cares session, Brock students are connected to a community speaker to learn about a particular topic. The sessions have been well received by students who are eager to learn and find ways to get involved. As well, community partners have a direct link to passionate students.
We are happy to hear ideas and co-create something along with our community partners. Each session takes place on MS Teams, is 1 hour and 15 minutes and includes some icebreakers, content on a topic and a call to action.
Topics covered to date have included:
– antiracism
– poverty
– learning disabilities
– virtual mentorship
– biodiversity
– advocacy
– seniors
If you are interested in connecting with students in this way, please email community@brocku.ca
Promote On-Campus
We have created a centralized request form to make it easier for you to get Brock students involved with your organization! Simply fill out our Community Partner- Request Form on ExperienceBU to request any of the following:
recruiting volunteers and promoting events
ExperienceBU is Brock University’s online involvement portal and events calendar designed to show students the ways they can get engaged with their community both on and off campus to make the most of their time as a student. The Community Engagement & Volunteering page on ExperienceBU was designed to help community organization showcase their upcoming volunteer opportunities and events to Brock students.
We will post short term and time/place volunteer opportunities for students on the Community Engagement and Volunteering page, and send out the information in our e-newsletter for students to see. Long term/ongoing opportunities will be reflected in the Community Partner Directory, and will also be shared in our e-newsletter.
We will post your organization’s events and opportunities that relate to students, or that the Brock community can participate in.
