Are you an incoming Brock student? Looking for a personalized, small group, orientation experience? LEAP, a 24-hour hands-on program, is for you! Led by experienced campus student leaders, LEAP provides an opportunity to make new friends and connections while volunteering in the community, exploring the campus, and spending a night in residence.

Get a first-hand look at our campus through the lens of our experienced student leaders and mentors. During LEAP, you will experience skill-building workshops that support your transition to Brock, an orientation to downtown St. Catharines and the public transportation system, an overnight stay in residence, and a service-learning volunteer opportunity with a local community partner. During LEAP you will have a chance to have fun, meet new people, learn from a number of campus partners and gain skills that will help you transition into your first year at Brock. You will also have a chance to go out into the community and engage in a service-learning project.

There are some slight differences in the program schedule over the LEAP sessions, but all participants receive the same engaging workshops, exciting activities and outreach opportunities. Student who opt for the Day program will also receive the same great programming without evening social activity and the overnight stay.

All LEAP participants will be provided with accommodation in our on-campus residences. Each guestroom is provided with a towel, face cloth, bed linens, pillow, soap and a plastic drinking cup. We suggest you bring an extra pillow and towel (if desired), toiletries, and an alarm clock.

Wear comfortable clothing because most of your day will be spent in interactive sessions. Casual dress is also suitable for the downtown St. Catharines dinner. With a program as busy as ours, we don’t always have a chance to change before dinner. A change of clothes for the community project is also suggested because some projects involve helping with active tasks such as gardening and preparing lunch. Please bring a pair of closed-toe shoes so that you are prepared for our community projects.

LEAP is brought to you by Student Life & Community Experience, Career Education and the Student Success Centre.

The community service project will take place in Niagara. In the past, we have worked with Habitat for Humanity, local community gardens, and Start Me Up Niagara. Projects are determined by the need and availability of our community partners. Transportation will be provided to and from the community partner site.

Please arrive on campus for 9:30 a.m. on the day Smart Start begins. Follow the signs for Smart Start and bring any luggage for LEAP with you to LEAP/Smart Start registration in the morning. We will gladly store your luggage for the day while you participate in Smart Start and our staff will meet you at the end of the Smart Start day.

Please arrive on campus to register at 4 p.m. Follow the signs for Smart Start to the Walker Complex. A LEAP staff member will greet you by the red wall in the Walker Complex.

Pick-up locations for the following day and emergency contact information will be provided to you at check-in.
