Yes, you are able to attend LEAP without registering for Smart Start. If you attend LEAP with overnight stay we highly recommend that you attend both programs on the same day.
During LEAP you will have a chance to have fun, meet new people, learn from a number of campus partners and gain skills that will help you transition into your first year at Brock. You will also have a chance to go out into the community and engage in a service-learning project.
There are some slight differences in the program schedule over the LEAP sessions, but all participants receive the same engaging workshops, exciting activities and outreach opportunities. Student who opt for the Day program will also receive the same great programming without evening social activity and the overnight stay.
All LEAP participants will be provided with accommodation in our on-campus residences. Each guestroom is provided with a towel, face cloth, bed linens, pillow, soap and a plastic drinking cup. We suggest you bring an extra pillow and towel (if desired), toiletries, and an alarm clock.
Wear comfortable clothing because most of your day will be spent in interactive sessions. Casual dress is also suitable for the downtown St. Catharines dinner. With a program as busy as ours, we don’t always have a chance to change before dinner. A change of clothes for the community project is also suggested because some projects involve helping with active tasks such as gardening and preparing lunch. Please bring a pair of closed-toe shoes so that you are prepared for our community projects.
LEAP is brought to you by Student Life & Community Experience, Career Education and the Student Success Centre.
The community service project will take place in Niagara. In the past, we have worked with Habitat for Humanity, local community gardens, and Start Me Up Niagara. Projects are determined by the need and availability of our community partners. Transportation will be provided to and from the community partner site.
