Research Support & Funding Opportunities

There are two competitions for funding each year for SJRI Seed Grants ($7000) and SJRI Local Engagement Grants ($2000) (May 15 and November 15).

Local Engagement Grants

We offer two categories of grants:  (1) SJRI Local Engagement Grants – Niagara Region, (2) SJRI Local Engagement Grants – Beyond Niagara

SJRI Local Engagement Grants are part of the Grants Program SJRI has developed to help support Affiliated Faculty Members in their transdisciplinary social justice research. SJRI Local Engagement Grants are for up to $2,000 in funding.

SJRI-Seed Grants

The SJRI has developed a Grants Program to help support Affiliated Faculty Members in their transdisciplinary social justice research. The SJRI Seed Grant is for up to $7,000 in funding

SJRI Seed Grants are designed to support transdisciplinary social justice research in its initial stages and help researchers to leverage funding for larger external grants.

SJRI Niagara Community Connections Incubator Fund

This fund supports affiliates’ efforts to develop research or knowledge mobilization collaborations with non-academic partners in the Niagara Region or vicinity.

Affiliates may apply for up to $250 to fund meetings, small receptions, working dinners with prospective partners, short-distance travel, etc., specifically devoted to building community collaborations around social justice research or knowledge mobilization.
