Burlington Instructional Resource Centre (IRC)

The Burlington Instructional Resource Centre provides specialized instructional resources and media services required to support the students, instructors, faculty and staff in the Teacher Education Program at the Burlington Campus.

Students at the St. Catharines Campus will have access to specialized instructional resources through the Gibson Library. Please note the St. Catharines IRC location is permanently closed.

Ophea has put together a collection of our health and physical education content to use with your kids to stay healthy and active at home. These resources can be used to continue learning while at home and are appropriate for parents and caregivers and as part of your child’s teachers’ health and physical education lesson planning. Crabtree Publishing

Crabtree Publishing wants to ensure that all students have access to quality curriculum PreK-9+ digital ebooks to enhance learning and to build a love of reading while at home. Crabtree is offering FREE access to the Crabtree Complete eLibrary until June 30, 2020! Access over 2000 PreK-9+ curriculum nonfiction and fiction ebooks! TumbleBooks’ databases are easy to use, and feature unlimited access from home! Your kids can read as many books as they want, when they want, and on any device. STAO

Recently, in support of student education, STAO will be offering free teacher and student access to their educational resources until students are able to return to school. STAO’s  K-12 Streaming platform is curriculum correlated by grade level. It’s a video-centric platform where teachers would be able to assign specific science videos with study guides (not all videos have guides) and send them via various platforms. To access the grade K-12 educational video streaming resources click here (Username: free and Password: 2020)

Borrowing policies

General information about items that you can borrow from the IRC. For a full description of our Borrowing Policies.

  • Brock University Patrons Loan Period
  • Undergraduate Students – 4 weeks
  • Teacher Education Students – 2 weeks (extended loan during Teaching Blocks)
  • Faculty/Staff/Graduate Students – Term Loan 120 days+ no renewal limit
  • Community Patrons Loan Period
    • Extramural Borrower – 2 weeks
    • Research Extra Mural Borrower – Term Loan
    • Inter-University Borrower – 2 weeks
    • Direct Borrower – 2 weeks
  • Items which are currently checked out and requested by another borrower can be recalled after a 2 week loan. Recalled items are to be returned within 3 days. Items circulated to Teacher Candidates during a teaching block cannot be recalled.
  • Renew material online using My Library Account or in person at the IRC Circulation Desk. IRC resources may not be renewed by telephone. Borrowers whose privileges have been suspended may not renew resources. Undergraduate students are permitted up to 4 consecutive renewals per item, if there are no holds on the item.   • Brock University Patrons only
  • 3 hour, 1 day or 2 day loans
  • No holds or recalls
  • Renewals on 1 and 2 day reserve items only if another copy is available.
  • Issued after an item is 32 days overdue
  • Patron is billed actual current cost of item (US funds if applicable), plus a $15.00 non-refundable processing fee, per item.
  • Borrowing privileges are suspended when a patron owes the University Library and/or the IRC $10.00 or more in fines, bills for replacement etc. or when an IRC item is more than 7 days overdue.
  • Students owing the University fees or fines will not receive a diploma, certificate, transcript or a statement of final grades until the fines have been paid.
