General Program Questions & Answers (Q&A)

Important dates are found here brocku.ca/important-dates/. These include the beginning and end dates of terms, fall and winter reading weeks, and statutory holidays.

Courses can be synchronous (set class meeting times) or asynchronous (no set class meeting times). All required courses and elective courses coded ECEC are specific to the BECE program and are asynchronous. So, your week may include self-paced learning with materials being released on certain dates and assignments having specific dates.

Not if you do not wish to. All required course and any courses coded ECEC are delivered asynchronously online. Your program can be completed, electives included, online. However, if you wish to, you can enrol in face-to-face electives. This would be your choice. The delivery method of a course is listed on the Course Timetable.

Synchronous classes can be scheduled Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Asynchronous classes do not have a scheduled group meeting time.

There are two BECE Internship courses to complete in the program. As such, details are shared within these courses. However, to help you prepare there is a Q&A about internships on the Student Resources Website brocku.ca/education/student-resources/bece-student-resources/

Students studying full time are encouraged to work 10 hours or less/week during the first term while adjusting to university life/expectations. Student anticipating working more than 10 hours/week should consider officially enrolling part-time. You can change your status each term (full/part time) as necessary.

A BECE pre-arrival meeting is a short, mandatory, virtual meeting each student attends in August prior to beginning the program in September. This meeting will assist you in being prepared for your first day of classes. Every student is expected to attend one session.

NEW! You can now register for ONE of the following pre-program orientation sessions. This session is run on TEAMS. Please be sure to install TEAMs prior to the meeting.

Many of the questions you may have will be answered within your program handbook and the Student Resources website. Both of these resources are updated annually in June. For this reason, as you review these resources, please note the dates on any information as they may not be applicable to this fall.
