Tips and Tricks for the Mascot Actor
• Exaggerate all your movements. From walking to waving, to showing emotions – everything should be grand to match the large costume.
• Embody the emotions you want to portray. Wearing a costume can make it difficult to communicate your emotions. This means that you need to use your whole body to show them. For example, if you are happy, try skipping and clapping.
• Pace yourself. It can be easy to run out of steam wearing a heavy costume. Do not be afraid to ask your handler for a break.
• Treat everyone with respect. If someone does not want to interact with you. It is best to leave them alone. When greeting children, try to kneel and be gentle as you may appear intimidating.
