  • COSC Researchers Receiving the Social Impact Paper Award at the 2024 EMNLP

    Robert Morabito, Sangmitra Madhusudan, Tyler McDonald, and Professor Ali Emami received the Social Impact Paper Award at the 2024 EMNLP (2024 Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing) with the work entitled “STOP! Benchmarking Large Language Models with Sensitivity Testing on Offensive Progressions”.

    Among roughly 1300 works, only 3 received social impact awards. This award recognizes research papers that demonstrate significant potential to positively impact society through the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, highlighting studies that address social issues and contribute to positive change through their findings and methods.

  • COSC Students at 2024 ICPC Programming Contest

    COSC had a team of students, Quinn Flavel, Kartikkumar Kirankumar Parekh, and Yuvraj Sehgal, participating and securing a good plate in the 2024 ICPC Programming Contest (International Collegiate Programming Contest).

    The students successfully completed 8 out of the 13 programming problems within the allocated 5 hours, including one within the first 4 minutes of the contest!

    This contest is distributed throughout various sites. At the Windsor site, which had all teams from Ontario, Brock’s team finished only behind teams from the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. They beat out teams from all the other Ontario universities in attendance, as well as some of the other UofT teams. Within the wider region (East-Central North America, which includes a lot of US universities), the team finished 19th overall.

  • 2024 Brock AI Day

    2024 Brock AI Day took place at the Pont Inlet, Brock University, on November 7th, 2024.

    It was a successful full day with talks, presentations, and interesting discussions from students, faculty members, and knowledgeable researchers in the field.
