Have you ever wondered how aging impacts memory and the movie viewing experience?

What is this study about?

  • The purpose of this research project is to gain a better understanding of how age affects the viewing of dynamic and meaningful stimuli (such as movies). You will watch two short Alfred Hitchcock films and then return to the lab 48 hours later to complete a series of memory tasks, including a brief word-based memory task examining how information is combined in memory, and to answer questions with a researcher who will provide specific instructions.

Who can participate?

  • Older adults ages 60 – 80 years old. Interested participants must also be fluent in English, have sufficient motor function for the use of a keyboard/mouse, corrected-to-normal vision and hearing, normal colour vision, and have no history of memory impairment (e.g. dementia, mild cognitive decline) or head injury.

What is involved?

You will also complete several questionnaires. Some of your verbal responses may be audio-recorded for later scoring.

What do individuals get for participating?

  • In appreciation of participation, you will receive $10/session, totalling in $20 CAD for completing the entire experiment (both days).
