What were the best parts of your experience a Brock?

After completing my Bachelors of Kinesiology at Brock, I wanted to continue to learn while also gaining hands on experience. The Master of Professional Kinesiology (MPK) program fit my needs perfectly. The program allows you to further your knowledge in all different branches of Kinesiology but also requires you to get out and complete a practicum each semester.

In both my undergraduate and graduate degree Brock has allowed me to have variety in my experiences. Throughout my undergraduate degree I was able to work with a wide range of populations and in different settings as well. In my graduate program, I have been able to participate in course work, get hands on experience and I am fortunate enough to be able to complete some research this summer on body image in athletes. All of these experiences are what have made my time at Brock so enjoyable.

What are your tips for thriving in grad school?

What has helped me thrive in grad school has been putting myself out there. It has been so valuable to try new experiences, engage in conversations with professors and take every challenge as a new opportunity to build my skills. Although you will learn in the classroom or lab, it is so important to take advantage of all the connections and opportunities that are present at Brock. I originally never saw myself as someone who would complete a research project of any kind but after speaking to a professor, I realized that I was really interested in the effects of body image on athletes. I then applied for the Professional Development Award and was selected as a recipient. This award is what allows me to complete some research this summer!

What are your next steps?

After I graduate from the MPK program, I hope to attend physiotherapy school. The experiences I have gained at Brock have helped me learn how passionate I am about helping others become the best version of themselves and improve their quality of life.
