Creston AirMedia Controlled Classrooms

Crestron AirMedia is a wireless presentation system that lets you cast content onto the in-room display directly from your personal laptop or mobile device, without needing to attach a network cable or configure display settings on your device. Free AirMedia clients are available for Windows and OS X computers; free mobile apps are available for iOS and Android devices.

Crestron AirMedia available is available in these Brock locations:

At Brock University, your device must be connected to the Brock Wifi wireless network to use AirMedia. You will also need the “Crestron AirMedia” mobile app available on the iTunes App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).

Crestron AirMedia allows anyone to walk into a room and wirelessly present PowerPoint, Excel, Word, PDF documents and photos from your PC/MAC laptop, iOS, or Android device through the room’s projection system or large screen display. The system allows a single full-screen presentation or up to four multiplexed presentations to be displayed using the Quad View. This document provides instructions on the system setup and use.

Getting Started:

It only takes a few moments to install/setup the required Crestron AirMedia software application on your laptop or cellular device prior to first use. All applications are accessible through the Crestron AirMedia deployment guide, or individual applications are available at the following:

  • PC – download the client application
  • MAC – download the client application
  • Android – download the App from Google Play
  • iOS – download the App from iTunes App Store

You can access the device via a web browser at the address identified in the top right corner of the display in the room.

While installing/setting up the application on your device, you will be asked for the address of the Crestron AirMedia system.

  • Use the IP address of the Air Media unit displayed in the top left corner of the display.
  • Enter the 4-digit access code displayed in the top right corner of the display.

Note: The Crestron AirMedia application for the laptop has significantly more features/capabilities than the application for iOS/Android (i.e., cellular devices). The application for the laptop displays a “mirror” image of your computer screen, so whatever is displayed on your computer can be displayed on the projection system.

Instructions:

  1. Connect to Brock’s wireless network and verify that you have Internet access.
  2. Start the Crestron AirMedia application on your device.
  3. The application attempts to scan the network to detect AirMedia devices, but will be unable to locate any, so an error message should appear. Simply click the “OK” button to bypass this error. If the error message does not appear, then click the “Reconnect” button.
  4. Enter the IP Address. The User Name and Code are not required and can be left blank. Once you’ve entered the hostname, click the “Connect” button.
  5. The connection control should appear. If the status bar indicates “Showing”, then your laptop should be displayed on the project screen. If you hover your mouse over the buttons, it will tell you the associated function:
    • When sharing your laptop, click the “Stop Showing” button (i.e., the square) to stop sharing your screen.
    • When sharing your laptop, click the “Freeze” button (i.e., the two-bars) to display a snapshot of your screen.
    • If not sharing your laptop, click the “Show Me” button (i.e., the arrow) to share your screen.
  6. Click the “Options” button (i.e., the square slider button between the x and – ) to change display options. The most frequently used option will be “Quad View” option. This option allows one person to display using full screen mode, or allows up to four people to simultaneously display using the quad-view mode.

Note: The Crestron AirMedia application for the iOS is far more limited in features/capabilities than the application for laptops. The application for the iOS can only be used to display documents and pictures stored on the device. It cannot be used to display content from a 3rd party application running on your device. While it advertises that it can display documents, we’ve been unable to figure out this feature as documents are typically created within a 3rd party application, which cannot be used. The following instructions only explain how to display pictures.

Instructions:

  1. Connect to Brock’s wireless network and verify that you have Internet access.
  2. Start the Crestron AirMedia application on your device
  3. “Tap to enter receiver IP address” and enter the IP address displayed on the top right corner of the displayed image. Enter the 4-digit access code from the top right corner of the displayed image, then click “Go”.
  4. Select the share Photo mode.
  5. Select the desired photo to share from your photo library.
  6. Click on the sharing mode options button.
  7. Choose the desired sharing mode.

Note: The Crestron AirMedia application for the Android is far more limited in features/capabilities than the application for laptops. The application for the Android can only be used to display pictures or documents stored on the device. It cannot be used to display content from a 3rd party application running on your device and cannot be used to mirror the device screen.

Instructions:

There are many variations of Android devices that have subtle differences in operations. These instructions were created on a Samsung Galaxy S4 and should provide the basic principles.

  1. Connect to the Brock wireless network and verify that you have Internet access.
  2. Start the Crestron AirMedia application on your device.
  3. The application attempts to scan the network to detect AirMedia devices, but will be unable to locate any and the following screen should appear.
  4. Click the application options button.
  5. Press “Tap to enter IP address”.
  6. Enter the IP address displayed on the top right corner of the displayed image. Enter the access code from the top right corner of the displayed image, then click “Connect”.
  7. Select the share Picture or Document mode.
  8. Select the desired document or photo from your library.
  9. Click on the sharing mode options button.
  10. Choose the desired sharing mode.
