BUSU/Gender and Sexual Violence Support and Education Student Advisory Committee Volunteer Opportunity 

Gender and Sexual Violence Support and Education (GSVSE) at Brock University seeks ten (10) individuals to join our new BUSU/GSVSE student advisement committee (BUSU/GSVSE-SAC). You will be a member of a group of undergraduate students convened to provide feedback on GSVSE initiatives funded through a BUSU support. This Committee is key to the work being done to support and educate the campus community about sexual violence. 

The successful candidates will have an interest in this field demonstrated through voluntary, activist or advocacy activities. Previous employment experience is appreciated but not required. 

The BUSU/GSVSE- SAC members are appointment for one-year term. Terms will run October through April, although the initial year it will run October 2021 through April 2022. This committee will meet 4– 6 times per academic year, for approximately 2 hours per meeting. The committee will review GSVSE initiatives underwritten with BUSU funds, advise on future programming and review Ontario Women’s Safety Grant proposals. The meetings will take place virtually until such time we are able to meet at the St. Catharines campus of Brock University.  

 The successful candidates will receive a complete orientation including role expectations, understanding GSVSE in the context of Human Rights and Equity as well as necessary information about reporting requirements and how they relate to Brock University. The team members will work closely with the Sexual Violence Support and Education Coordinator and BUSU Executive member working with the committee.  

 Group members will be challenged to consider the various area of programming in relations to the broader context of Human Rights and Equity. The applicant’s area of academic concentration is not a factor in these appointments. Preference for individuals with lived experience as members of racialized, LGBTQ2S+, disabled, or other marginalized communities, as well as recent, or current, experience as a student within a post-secondary institution. Commitment to ending Gender and sexual violence as demonstrated through previous or current activist or voluntary work is strongly desired.

  • The applicant’s area of academic concentration is not a factor in appointments to this Committee 
  • Commitment to ending Gender and sexual violence is strongly desired 
  • Candidates must be a current Brock University student, in good standing.
