About the Student Justice Centre

The Student Justice Centre (SJC) is Brock University’s campus hub for social justice education, support, and activism. The SJC provides support to students impacted by and not limited to: Racism, Colonialism, Transphobia, Homophobia, Ableism, Xenophobia, Ethno-Religious Fascism, Classism, Sexism, and Ageism etc. We are committed to supporting and creating a safe campus for all students, staff, faculty, and community members, as we promote education, activism, and equity on campus.

The main objectives of our office are:

  • Prevention and Education: Organizing educational initiatives, activism support, and programming, such as workshops, events, film screenings, campaigns, drop-ins and more to raise awareness on social justice issues.
  • Advocacy and Support: Offering safer, braver and confidential Drop-In support spaces for equity-denied and marginalized students on campus to access resources, get support and connect with community.
  • Training and Capacity Building: Offering and facilitating training and workshop sessions to members of the Brock University community to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, respond to, and prevent racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination and oppression.
  • Equity: Offering various resources and supports to students to further establish equity on campus, such as the Gender Affirming Gear Program, our Food Pantry, student jobs and more.

What is Social Justice?

Social Justice is grounded in the belief that every human being deserves equal political, economic and social rights, and opportunities. Social Justice is concerned with injustice(s) and discrimination in which access to these needs are not being met.

In accordance with Social Justice and Equity, society, people and institutions should never withhold rights and equitable opportunities because of one’s identity:

  • Age
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Ethnicity
  • Disability
  • Social Class
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Level of Education
  • Economic Situation
  • Geographic Location
  • Gender and Sexual Identity
