Proximity Card Access

About

Access control is a system that allows Information Technology Services (ITS) to secure access to areas and resources in a given physical facility. The use of access control is important for securing confidential and/or sensitive information and equipment.

With an Access Control system in place, every employee is given a swipe card. Depending on their authorization, this card can restrict or enable access to a property, a building or a room. Access control determines:

  • Who is allowed to enter or exit
  • Where they can enter or exit
  • When they can enter or exit

How it works:
Access Control uses computers to solve the limitations of mechanical locks and keys. With a swipe card system, when access is granted, the door is unlocked for a set period of time and the transaction is recorded. When access is refused, the door remains locked and the attempted access is recorded.
