Dramatic Arts (Honours) (Intermediate/Senior) (BA/BEd)

Dramatic Arts students interested in teaching will become uniquely prepared and qualified to commence careers as educators by pursuing a study program that includes courses in Drama in Education, Applied Theatre, Child and Youth Studies, Child and Youth Development, Foundations of Education, Teaching, Learning and Schooling, Foundations of Curriculum and Assessment, Reading and Literacy Development and Teaching Performance, complemented by a selection of advanced courses and practicum experiences offered by the Faculty of Education – in addition to the core courses of the Honours Dramatic Arts BA degree.

DART students completing the two Concurrent programs enjoy the same opportunities to learn and make theatre as the students in the Honours program.  Please see that program page for more information. Below is information specific to the Concurrent programs.


The Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education co-operate in offering a concurrent program combining a BA (Honours) degree and a BEd degree for students interested in teaching at the Intermediate/Senior level (grades 7-12).

This is a six-year program to complete an Honours degree with a major in Dramatic Arts. A second teachable subject (Biology, Chemistry, English (first language), French (second language), Geography, Health and Physical Education, History, Mathematics, Physics, Science-General, or Visual Arts, minimum 3.0 credits) is also completed.
A BEd degree is also completed. The complete program is described here.

Are you interested in teaching Drama as the second teachable in addition to the first teachable subject of English Language and Literature, French, Geography, History or Visual Arts? Your studies at DART would include course credits in creativity-based practical work with a reflective component. A maximum of 1.0 credit in theory-based courses, history of theatre/drama/dramatic literature. Recommended course sequence – DART 1F50 – Acting for the TheatreDART 1F40 – Scenography and Stagecraft; one of DART 2P95 – Contemporary Canadian Indigenous Theatre for Non-majors or DART 2P97 – Canadian Dramaturgy; and one-half DART credit numbered 2(alpha)00 or above.

Students in the Concurrent programs may audition to perform in Dramatic Arts mainstage productions. You will also have opportunities to build and technically produce the shows in stagecraft courses.

You must complete the DART Invitational to be considered for admission to this program.

Integrated Studies (Honours) (Junior/Intermediate) (BA/BEd)

The Faculties of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, co-operate in offering a concurrent program combining a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Honours) degree in Integrated Studies with a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree for students interested in teaching at the Junior/Intermediate level (grades 4-10), emphasizing elementary school (grades 4-8).

This is a six-year program to complete an Honours BA degree in Integrated Studies, with a chosen teachable subject (Dramatic Arts, minimum 3.0 credits).
A BEd degree is also completed.

For Dramatic Arts, course credits in creativity-based practical work with a reflective component are required.
