- Physician will evaluate the student and if appropriate, a referral will be put in place.
We do not accept referrals from community physicians
Student Health Services offers birth control information to students receiving, or interested in receiving, a prescription for birth control. Appointments with a physician should be booked at Harrison Hall to review information on types of birth control available, proper use, and to make informed decisions about their birth control needs.
If you receive injections for allergies, hormone therapy, or vitamin deficiencies, you can receive these injections at Student Health Services Harrison Hall. If you require any injection, a “Physician Order” appointment must be booked first. After the physician has given the ok, your injection will then be scheduled with a nurse. This process must be done once yearly for as long as you require your injections.
Harrison Hall offers a variety of immunizations including tetanus, polio, hepatitis B, HPV, and the influenza vaccine (flu shots).
The HPV vaccine is the only vaccine that can reduce your risk of cancer. HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the world.
HPV vaccine is prescription required.
Student Health Services and Personal Counselling Services at SWAC can support you with a range of gender-affirming medical and mental health care services no matter what stage of transition you are at.
Physicians at Student Health Services (Harrison Hall location) provide gender-affirming medical care through assessment, advice, and treatment regarding medical transition with hormone therapy. This includes both new assessments and ongoing care. They can also provide documentation (including referrals) to support access to medical transition related and gender-affirming surgery. Nurses at Student Health Services (Harrison Hall location) provide gender-affirming medical care by performing injections and teaching clients to self-inject hormones. We also provide some post-surgical care.
Mental health clinicians at Student Health Services and Personal Counselling Services offer support for students who are contemplating transition, are transitioning, or have transitioned, as well as 2SLGBTQ+ students seeking other types of support. Please note that we do not require a mental health screening or diagnosis for access to gender-affirming care.
Staff and clinicians at SWAC’s Student Health Services and Personal Counselling Services recognize that there are many ways non-binary and trans people identify and present. We focus on shared decision making and an informed consent model.
To ensure there is sufficient time, please request a 60-minute appointment for your first visit. When asked, please say it is for an appointment related to gender-affirming care so we can book you with someone who specializes in this care. During registration, inform staff of your name(s) and any pronouns you use if you would like us to be aware of them; these will be noted in your medical records and respected by Student Health Services and Personal Counselling staff.
Note: Some services may not be covered by OHIP/UHIP.
