The Cairns’ Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex is a 169,000 sq. ft. 4 storey plus basement building that will be located immediately east of Plaza Building and west of Glenridge Avenue.
Scheduled for completion in 2012, the facility will house the following laboratories, research facilities and office space:
- synthetic chemistry laboratory
- applied health sciences, biotechnology and biology laboratory space
- Containment Level 3 (CL3) laboratory
- vivarium
- phytotron (enclosed greenhouse)
- photo-physical sciences laboratory
- teaching laboratories
- business incubator
- computer teaching space
- Department of Child and Youth Studies laboratory space
- Niagara Campus of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine
- multi-purpose laboratories and miscellaneous program amenities
The facility will be developed based on principles of sustainability and quality environments. The construction of the Complex will be targeting a “Certified” rating or higher on the Canadian Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) scoring system. A LEED-certified facility will support the University’s vision for quality state of the art facilities with innovative design, quality materials and sustainable systems.
