  • Facilities Update – Installation of Fiber Optic Cabling – Main Campus – Commencing Monday, March 10

We wish to advise that Sentrex Communication Inc. of North York plans to start work on the installation of fiber optic cabling at Brock’s Main Campus, St. Catharines, on Monday, March 10.  The work has been scheduled for 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily and will be continuous to completion, expected to be late-April, weather permitting.  The first phase of the install will primarily take place outdoors along Brock’s east property boundary as well as at the intersection of Sir Isaac Brock Way/Glenridge Avenue/Merrittville Highway.  We do not anticipate any disruption in traffic flow (vehicle and/or pedestrian) to/from campus as a result of this work.  The second phase will involve bringing the fiber cable into Res 8 (Level 100) and through the service tunnel to the Comm Room at Inniskillin Hall (IH108).

If you have any questions, please contact John Rizzo, Snr Project Manager.

  • Facilities Update: Annual Planned Electrical Shutdown – Group C buildings – May 9, 2025

Every year, Brock University’s Facilities Management Electrical Services and Information Technology Services conduct full-scale maintenance on their respective infrastructure. Although this occurs annually, the campus is broken up into three groups. You can see the buildings that comprise each group and their future full-scale maintenance dates on the attached file.

The buildings known as Group C have their annual maintenance scheduled for Friday, May 9th, 2025. During this time, the buildings will be CLOSED and there will be no access from 6:00 pm on Friday May 9th to 10:00 am on Saturday May 10th.

Group C Buildings undergoing annual maintenance in May 2025 are:

    • Roy & Louis Family Heath and Bioscience and Research Complex
    • Welch Hall
    • Scotia Bank Hall
    • South Block
    • Walker Complex
    • Lowenberger Residence
    • Village Residence
    • Kenmore Centre
    • Harrison Hall
    • Theal House
    • D Lot Parking Kiosk
    • Rosiland Blauer Daycare
    • Goodman School Of Business
    • Plaza Building
    • Student Alumni Center

The University’s East and Satellite Campuses will have normal power and will be operational as per their usual schedules.

For emergency-only access to any of these affected areas, please contact Campus Security at x 3200 to make arrangements.  All doors will be locked and swipe card access will be unavailable during these times.

In order to prepare for the power shutdown, networks will be powered down at 6:00 pm, on Friday May 9th. As a result, network access (which includes both wired and wireless connectivity) will NOT be available in the impacted buildings until shortly after the power is restored on Saturday May 10th.

Students, Faculty and Staff with spaces in the buildings listed above are reminded to do the following prior to leaving for the weekend on Friday, May 9th:

    • Make prior arrangements to ensure that computers, printers, and sensitive equipment, etc, are power off
    • Clean out fridges and remove anything that is at risk of spoilage

In the unlikely event that power cannot be restored to the areas mentioned above by 10:00 am on Saturday, information will be posted on the Brock homepage (under “News”). Every effort will be made to communicate this information by 7:00 am.

If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to Scott Kernicky, Electrical Services Manager or call X6201 or Facilities Management Customer Service at [email protected] or call x3717

  • Switching Over the Campus’ Systems from Heating to Cooling

Facilities Management trade staff will be switching over the Campus’ systems from heating to cooling over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Preparations are being made to the Main Campus cooling system at the central plant for summer operation. Many buildings are not designed to cool and heat simultaneously. As we experience the typical summer temperature fluctuations, some areas on Main Campus may experience cooler OR warmer than normal temperatures during regular office hours.

Facilities Management staff will continue to make the Main Campus as comfortable as possible. If your area experiences any issues, please avoid making radical adjustments to the thermostats as this may have an adverse affect in your room and other adjacent areas.

If your area is experiencing any extreme or ongoing temperature issues, please email Facilities Management Customer Service at [email protected] or call x3717.
