Children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) frequently display obsessions and/or compulsions similar to those with obsessive compulsive disorder – such as frequent hand washing, repetitive questioning, ordering and arranging, and rituals in day-to-day routines. However, limited research exists on effective interventions for obsessive-compulsive behaviors that many children and their parents report significantly affect their daily lives.
This webinar hosted on June 15, 2021, presented by Associate Professor Dr. Tricia Vause and graduate students, Sarah Davis (PhD candidate) and Dana Kalil (MA candidate), discussed an evidence-based manualized treatment that blends Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) to empower children and youth and ‘fight back against OCB.”
Specific topics addressed included: benefits of a blended treatment approach, treatment enhancements for ASD, individualizing CBT and ABA components, social skills, parent coaching, importance of youth voice, and creating a fun atmosphere.
Please note that this webinar does not recommend any specific resource and/or treatment options, nor is it intended to provide individual advice. Individuals should consult with their healthcare team/treatment provider for all healthcare recommendations and decisions.
We would like to acknowledge the support from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Office of Research Services, which helped to make this event possible.
