About The General

The General was initiated by the Brock University Historical Society (BUHS), our undergraduate History organization, in 2016. Published annually in April, the journal showcases outstanding research papers by History undergraduates who submit their strongest work for consideration.

The journal’s co-editors earn course credit through enrollment in HIST 4P70: Seminar in Academic Editing and Publishing.

Each year the Department hosts a launch of the latest volume of the journal, where co-editors and student authors present their work and celebrate their scholarly achievements with an enthusiastic audience of faculty, family, and friends.

The General hosts an annual competition for the artwork on the journal’s cover.

The General is an open-access journal available for anyone to read. It also appears in a limited print edition.
