Offer timelines

A select number of offers are issued in December and are based on a combination of Grade 11 and Grade 12 results. To be eligible for an early offer you must have 1.0 final Grade 12 result at the 4U or 4M-level, and five Grade 11 U or M-level credits. Averages are in the high 80s or 90s. The first major round of admission offers to Ontario applicants is in February. Admission averages are calculated using a minimum 3.0 first-semester Grade 12 4U or 4M finals, with registration in 3.0 additional 4U or 4M credits, including prerequisites. If you are in a non-semester school, we will use 6.0 mid-term grades at the Grade 12 4U or 4M level, including prerequisites. The final round of admission offers happens in May. If you do not receive an offer in February, or if you are still in studies and received an alternate program offer, we will automatically reassess you for eligibility for your preferred program in May. We will continue to make offers based on final grades, as well as summer school grades provided space in programs is available.

International Baccalaureate (IB) and OSSD studies

If you are completing the IB program and will graduate with the OSSD, your courses and IB grades will be translated to equivalent Ontario curriculum courses and grades. Your grades and courses will automatically be forwarded to us from your school via OUAC. You may be awarded up to 3.0 transfer credits for HL examinations completed at a minimum grade of 5 (one full year at Brock equals 5.0 credits). A scholarship worth $1,000 will also be granted. Applicants who successfully complete an IB certificate program with a minimum of six subjects, including prerequisites, may also be considered for admission and transfer credit. For information regarding transfer credit and course equivalencies, email futurestudent@brocku.ca.

Advanced placement (AP) and OSSD studies

If you are completing advanced placement courses as part of your OSSD, you may qualify for transfer credit with examination grades of 4, to a maximum of 2.0 Brock credits (one full year at Brock equals 5. 0 credits). An official AP transcript is required for the evaluation process. For information regarding course equivalencies, email futurestudent@brocku.ca.

Brock University has a long-standing tradition of welcoming applicants from provinces throughout Canada. As an international student studying in another province in Canada, you are subject to the same admission requirements as Canadian students.

General admission requirements

  • Secondary school diploma;
  • Grade 12 courses at the number and level specified for your province (see below);
  • A minimum average of 70% (many programs require a higher average);
  • You must meet English language proficiency requirements.

Admission Criteria by Program

How we calculate an admission average

  • Prerequisites are calculated in the admission average.
  • In provinces where provincial exams are written and passed, the better of the two grades (in-class grade versus final blended in-class and examination mark) will be used to determine an admission average. If an examination is failed, the final blended mark (in-class and examination mark) will be used.
  • There is one exception to the above rule: The final blended mark will always be used as the English prerequisite requirement.

What we need to make an admissions decision

Brock will make an admissions decision upon receipt of an academic secondary school transcript that shows a minimum 3.0 final Grade 12 results, and registration in second semester Grade 12 courses. We will accept a transcript or grade report from your secondary school guidance office for the purpose of assessment, but we will require a final official transcript as a condition of any offer).

Brock University welcomes applications from home schooled students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. We understand the nature of homeschooling, and the fact that no two applicants will present the same academic preparation. For this reason creating a single admission policy and admissions criteria guidelines can be challenging. We encourage you to contact us well before the Grade 12 year for guidance.

Prerequisite subject requirements/average guidelines

Preference will be given to those applicants who complete their grade 12 studies over a period of one academic year (rather than part-time over a period of several terms or years). Applicants are strongly encouraged to include Canadian content in their studies. Chemistry, mathematics, physics and biology courses should be completed during the final year of study leading up to entry to university (not during the eleventh year of study).

In order for us to determine eligibility you must first decide whether you are a Category A or Category B home schooled applicant. If you have trouble deciding, or you need clarification regarding any of the information below, contact 905 688 5550 x4293 or futurestudent@brocku.ca.

Homeschooled Category A

This category is reserved for those that complete the equivalent of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), complete the final year of secondary studies through an Ontario Ministry of Education inspected school, and present six 4U or 4M Ontario Grade 12 credits, including prerequisites. The 4U/4M credits may be completed in any combination of correspondence, on-line learning, night school, or day school. Admissions decisions can be made once a minimum of three final grades and evidence of registration in three additional Grade 12 4U/4M credits are submitted to the Admissions Office.

Canadian out-of-province applicants with equivalent preparation in the home province will be given equal consideration.

YOU MUST PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF:

  • Four years of secondary schooling equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma;
  • Six Ontario Grade 12 4U or 4M- level credits completed through an Ontario Ministry of Education inspected school authorized to grant credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD);
  • Meeting the minimum admission average;
  • Meeting prerequisite subject requirements;
  • 40 hours community service (or in the process of completing).

Homeschooled Category B

All other home schooled applicants who do not fall into the above category will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Normally, admission is limited to Humanities General Studies, Social Sciences General Studies or Sciences General Studies. Upon successful completion of first-year studies at Brock University, applicants may apply to declare a specific major.

Canadian out-of-province applicants with equivalent preparation in the home province will be given equal consideration.

YOU MUST PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF:

  • Four years of secondary schooling equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma;
  • The equivalent of six Ontario Grade 12 4U or 4M- level credits;
  • Meeting the minimum admission average;
  • Meeting prerequisite subject requirements;
  • 40 hours community service (or in the process of completing).

OPTIONAL:

  • Satisfactory Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT 1) or ACT test result.

Those who are not eligible for admission in any other category and who are at least 21 years old, may be considered for admission as a Mature student.

Mature applicants are normally only considered for the Bachelor of Arts (3 Year) General Humanities or Bachelor of Arts (3 Year) Social Sciences degree programs. Mature applicants selected for admission are limited to part-time study initially and must achieve an overall average of at least 60 percent on their first two credits to proceed to full-time studies. Mature students who are interested in full-time studies may alternatively be considered for Academic Bridging. The application for Mature studies (part-time) is $55.  To apply, complete the application.

You may wish to take a course as an Open Studies student. This is a non-degree pathway. Permission of the instructor may be required.

The charge for a course is regular UG tuition. As an Open Studies student, you will be able to enroll in part-time studies, and may take up to 1 credit per term to a maximum of 4 credits total.

There are no formal admission requirements for entry as an Open Studies student. The application fee is $55, and the deadline to submit your application is two weeks before the start of term.

As Open Studies is a non-degree option, studies through this pathway are:

  • Not OSAP-funding eligible (domestic students)
  • Not Study Permit eligible (international students)

To apply, please complete the application.

Students may decide at a later date that they would like to pursue a Brock degree program. Students can apply to their degree program of interest and their application will be evaluated by Admissions for admissibility. If admitted to a degree program, courses taken through Open Studies will be added to their student transcript, though all courses may not fit into their degree program requirements.

Students currently on academic suspension or debarment at another university are not permitted entry to Brock until they have cleared that sanction with their previous institution.

If you are in Open Studies and are ready to apply to a Brock degree program, you must e-mail admissions@brocku.ca first for information on the next available entry point.

Update your skills and credentials with undergraduate credit micro-certificates at Brock University.

If you wish to apply for an undergraduate credit micro-certificate and you are a NEW student to Brock, apply here using the Open Studies application. The application fee is $55.

You will use the Open Studies application for undergraduate credit micro-certificate offerings that have no admission criteria or pre-requisites.

Following your admission to Open Studies, contact the academic department delivering your undergraduate credit micro-certificate of interest to complete the Micro-Certificate Declaration Form.

If you are a current student or previously registered student, please contact the academic department delivering your undergraduate credit micro-certificate of interest to complete the Micro-Certificate Declaration Form.

For more information on the undergraduate credit micro-certificates available and the academic department delivering them, please visit the  Undergraduate Calendar.

IELP/Undergraduate Program

Those who meet undergraduate admission requirements but don’t meet our English language proficiency requirements can apply to the IELP/undergraduate program. As an IELP/undergraduate student, you will first apply to Brock. You must submit an official English proficiency test score, such as TOEFL, IELTS, etc., with your application. Once at Brock, you will write the Brock CamLA placement test. Both tests will be reviewed and typically you will be placed in the IELP level that reflects the higher of the two test scores. Levels range from preparatory to advanced Level 5. Each level or term is 12 weeks long with 25 hours of instruction per week.

It’s common for students to take 1-3 terms to complete Level 5 IELP. Entry into undergraduate degree courses will be in the academic term (January, May or September) immediately following completion of the Level 5 IELP.

If you begin your undergraduate studies in Winter or Spring, please note that all first-year courses for all programs are not always available at these entry points. You should speak with the academic advisor for your program to determine if Winter or Spring are your best option. If you are exiting ESL Level 5 and are due to begin in Winter or Spring, you may wish to move your entry point to Fall, by emailing admissions@brocku.ca prior to the start of your Winter/Spring term.

Why should you apply?

  • You have the peace of mind knowing that we’re holding a place for you in the undergraduate degree program before you arrive in Canada.
  • A single offer of admission to both IELP and undergraduate studies advances the process of accessing a study permit.
  • You will become familiar and comfortable with Brock University before you begin full-time undergraduate studies.

Submit your IELP Application

Undergraduate Application Fee: $150 + IELP Tuition Deposit of $250
