Faculty of Social Sciences

The Certificate in Film Production is taught at the Weengushk Film Institute, located on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. It is an eight-month program which provides hands-on training and instruction provided by industry professionals. Students are introduced to the seven core aspects of filmmaking: screenwriting, producing, directing, cinematography, editing, composing and marketing. Students work towards writing and directing a short film, creating a Public Service announcement, developing a story idea for a future project and creating an outline/treatment for a feature film of their conception.

Weengushk Film Institute is a charitable non-profit, artist-focused film and television training centre, dedicated to unlocking participants’ creative potential while developing their market leading skills and experiences.

The Certificate in Film Studies is designed for persons who already have a degree or do not wish to pursue a degree. The program consists of required courses with core concepts in Film Studies and electives, where students study topics in more detail. The admission requirements are the same as for the degree program. Prospective students should consult with the Film Studies Academic Adviser before applying to the certificate program.

The Certificate in Television Production is taught at the Weengushk Film Institute, located on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. It is a 10-month program which provides hands on training and instruction by industry professionals. Students are expected to have already completed the Certificate in Film Production at Weengushk, or an equivalent, before taking the Certificate in Television Production. Students are given the opportunity to enhance their media production skills through the development of techniques and formats specific to television, including scriptwriting, production planning, directing, editing, and sound composition. Students will develop and direct a television production.

The Certificate in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre would be of particular interest to social workers, drama therapists, psycho-therapists, prison counsellors, people who train volunteers, personnel managers, union organizers and market consultants who wish to add to existing qualifications or to acquire courses which might later be applied to a degree. The Certificate in Business French and Translation is designed for persons who already have a degree or do not wish to pursue a degree. The program consists of required courses in Business French and French-English translation practice and theory, and electives where students choose courses that fit their needs and interests. The program provides professional training and skills development for individuals seeking employment in a Francophone or bilingual setting, or for those already employed seeking to expand and advance their careers. Faculty of Math & Science

The Certificate in Grape and Wine Technology is designed to leverage students’ previous academic training in related fields of science (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, Horticulture, etc.).  After the completion of the 1-year (full-time) or longer (part-time) program, graduates will be well prepared to enter the grape and wine industry in vineyard, winery, or laboratory settings.  Students with significant industry experience but without an academic science background are also eligible to apply.
