Information for Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff are frequently the first people on campus that become aware that a student is experiencing some social/emotional issues. Often an empathetic response and a word of support from a Staff or Faculty member is all that a student needs to muster their own resources and get back on track. At other times the most helpful thing that you can do is to help the student connect with our service. A referral to Personal Counselling is very appropriate when a student informs you about a situation(s) in their life that is consuming much of their energy and/or interfering with their ability to focus on their academic work. A referral is also advisable if the student's problems seem to persist despite your best efforts to help. If a student is not open to a referral you are welcome to consult with Les McCurdy-Myers the Manager of Personal Counselling about the situation.
