Lifespan Speaker Series – Treating postpartum depression, benefits for mom and baby

Maternal postpartum depression poses a major challenge to the health of mothers and their infants. However, recent evidence has shown that treatments for PPD improves maternal health, but also benefits infant emotional and behavioural development, as well as mother-infant interaction patterns.

In this free webinar on October 4, 2022, Dr. John Krzeczkowski (York University Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Director of the Strong Starts Research Program) presented exciting new evidence on:

  • How treating PPD in mothers improves their ability to soothe their infants during moments of distress
  • That treating PPD benefits infant emotion regulation months after the end of maternal treatment
  • How maternal sensitivity improvements can reorganize infant brain development
  • John also discussed the exciting future of research on the benefits of PPD treatments on the infant brain
  • Updated findings from the previous May 2021 webinar  http://brocku.ca/lifespan-development-research/maternal-health/

Please note that this webinar does not recommend any specific resource and/or treatment options, nor is it intended to provide individual advice. Individuals should consult with their healthcare team/treatment provider for all healthcare recommendations and decisions.
