History MA student Ethan Moncion wins prestigious graduate scholarship

The History Department is delighted to announce that MA student Ethan Moncion has received an Ontario Graduate Scholarship.

The prestigious merit-based award will provide Ethan with $15,000 over three consecutive academic term to complete his thesis, entitled, “Provincial Provisioning: The Diet and Food Supplies of the Provincial Marine.” His thesis supervisor  is Dr. Elizabeth Neswald.

Ethan’s research explores a little known British Canadian naval unit established during the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) that transported supplies to British and Indigenous forces across the Great Lakes during the War of 1812. Ethan examines the foodways of soldiers and sailors, suppliers’ connections to Freemasonry, and adaptation to the unique circumstances of provisioning on the inland seas.

Congratulations, Ethan! Well done.
