REMINDER: Consultation for the review of course collection and scheduling practices

On November 13, the University announced that it was launching a review of its course collection and scheduling practices. The project is supported by assistance from KPMG, which will lead the consultation and data analysis processes in order to formulate recommendations.

The scope of the review encompasses the evaluation of existing policies, procedures, and technologies employed in course collection and scheduling. The review will include a consideration of leading practices at other Ontario universities and make recommendations on potential areas for improvement. The review is expected to be complete by May 2024.

The University is committed to actively seeking feedback and suggestions from the campus community, including academic units and faculty members, on how best to improve course collection and scheduling practices. Details of the various components of the consultation process are included below:

  • An online consultation portal for students, staff, faculty members and librarians to provide their thoughts and feedback on the University’s practices was launched in mid-November and will remain open until February 2, 2024
  • Focus groups for faculty members will be facilitated by KPMG on the following dates and times:
    • February 6, 100-230, Sankey Chambers (in person)
    • February 6, 300-430, online via MS Teams
    • February 8, 1030-1200, Sankey Chambers (in person)
  • A focus group for non-BUFA instructors on February 7, 11-12, online via MS Teams
  • A focus group for Department Chairs on February 6, 900-1030, Sankey Chambers (in person)
  • A focus group for Administrative Assistants who interact with the course collection and scheduling processes, on February 8, 900-1000, Sankey Chambers (in person)
  • A focus group for Academic Advisors who interact with the course collection and scheduling processes, on February 8, 230-330, Sankey Chambers (in person)

Those who plan on attending one of the focus groups should contact provost@brocku.ca to confirm their attendance. While drop-ins are still welcome, confirmation of attendance will be helpful to estimate the size of each session.

Those who plan on attending an online session must contact provost@brocku.ca to receive the Teams link.

Those who cannot attend a focus group are encouraged to share their thoughts via the consultation website before February 2, 2024.
