Robyn Bourgeois, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, has been appointed Brock’s Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement. The appointment took effect Tuesday, Nov. 1 and is for a term of up to five years. Bourgeois has served in the role in an acting capacity since October 2020.
Bourgeois teaches in the Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies, and her research focuses on Indigenous feminisms, violence against Indigenous women and girls, and Indigenous women’s political activism and leadership.
A mixed race Cree woman who is originally from the Syilx and Splats’in territories of British Columbia, Bourgeois has been a strong champion for decolonizing all aspects of campus life, through targeted hiring practices, increased research opportunities and engagement opportunities for all community members.
