In the coming weeks and months, the Provost & Vice-President, Academic will be chairing a committee struck under section 4.2 of the Faculty Handbook to advise on the appointment of a Dean, Faculty of Education. Professor Michael Owen has served in this role since August 2017. His term was recently extended until August 2023. He has announced his intention to leave the role as of December 2022.
The Provost & Vice-President, Academic is seeking nominations for members to serve on the advisory committee. Nominations from faculty and students will be recommended to the Provost by the Governance Committee of Senate. Nominations from staff members will be recommended by the President.
Under the Faculty Handbook, the Advisory Committee will consist of:
- Six full-time tenured faculty members from the Faculty of Education (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- One full-time tenured faculty member of the Program Committee of a Centre from the Faculty (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- One undergraduate student, representing BUSU, from the appropriate Faculty (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- One graduate student, representing the GSA, from the appropriate Faculty (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- One ongoing staff member from the appropriate Faculty (to be recommended by the President; ongoing staff members reporting directly to the Dean are not eligible to serve);
- One full-time tenured faculty member who is an elected member of Senate and from another Faculty in the University (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate); and
- One full-time faculty member of the Program Committee of a Program not housed in a Department or Centre from the appropriate Faculty (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate).
Students, staff and faculty members are asked to use the Advisory Committee Nomination Form. It is expected that the Committee will begin its work in January and conclude by June.
