In the coming weeks, the Provost & Vice-President, Academic will be chairing a committee struck under section 4.2 of the Faculty Handbook to advise on the appointment of a Dean, Faculty of Math & Science. Dr. Ejaz Ahmed has served two full terms in the role.
The Provost & Vice-President, Academic is seeking nominations for members to serve on the advisory committee.
Under the Faculty Handbook, the Advisory Committee will be chaired by the Provost and consist of:
- At least six full-time tenured faculty members from the Faculty of Math & Science, such that each Department is represented and such that faculty members comprise a majority of the Committee (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- At least one full-time tenured faculty member of the Program Committee of a Centre from the Faculty (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate),
- At least one undergraduate student, representing BUSU, from the Faculty of Math & Science (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- At least one graduate student, representing the GSA, from the Faculty of Math & Science (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate);
- At least one ongoing staff member from the Faculty of Math & Science (to be recommended by the President; ongoing staff members reporting directly to the Dean are not eligible to serve); and
- At least one full-time tenured faculty member who is an elected member of Senate and from another Faculty in the University (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate); and
- At least one full-time faculty member of the Program Committee of a Program not housed in a Department or Centre from the Faculty of Math & Science (to be recommended by the Governance Committee of Senate).
Students, staff and faculty members interested in serving on the advisory committee are asked to nominate themselves using the Advisory Committee Nomination Form by 430 PM on Friday, November 5. It is expected that the committee will begin its work in January 2022 and conclude by June 2022.
