Research Management System (RMS)

Brock’s Research Management System is delivered through Synto. It is an online system that facilitates research grant application management, and compliance management.

The system has an easy-to-use interface to meet the needs of researchers and research administrators by enabling research review, document management and communication between researchers and administrators. That is, it supports the development of study protocols, projects, and grant applications, as well as the review and issuance of approvals and clearance certificates.

The system allows users to submit applications to the Office of Research Ethics, Animal Care Services, Radiation Safety and Biosafety, and the Office of Research Services.

Research Management System Implementation and Multi-Channel Training

The Research Management System (RMS) is entering the next phase of implementation. Following a successful soft launch, where the researchers had the option of submitting applications using either the existing systems or RMS, we are now moving towards full implementation for most RMS modules.  As part of this transition, please note that effective September 15, 2026, the following applications will be accepted through RMS only:

  • Research Ethics Applications
  • Animal Use Applications
  • Radiation Safety and Biosafety
  • Research Funding
    1. All internal research funding program applications
    2. The following external funding opportunities
      • SSHRC Partnership Engage Grants (PEG)
      • NSERC Research Tools and Instruments (RTI)

The  remaining external funding programs will transition to the RMS in phases, with full implementation expected by January 15, 2027. Additional communications outlining which external programs are affected and their respective timelines will be shared with Faculties as these transition dates approach.

Furthermore, the research funding applications will no longer need the ORS cover sheet as the Faculty and Department review and approval is completed via RMS.

Application Forms

The application forms feature smart questions that adjust based on responses/answers, so some questions may appear or disappear. Required questions are indicated with a red asterisk (*), and questions with an “i” icon provide additional information.
