Program Objectives

The CERC program is designed to:

  • Attract top-tier global researchers to Canada
  • Strengthen Canada’s research capacity in priority areas
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the research ecosystem
  • Promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research with national and international impact

Eligibility for Nomination

Brock University welcomes expressions of interest from outstanding researchers based outside Canada or at other Canadian universities.

Researchers who hold a full-time academic appointment at a Canadian institution are eligible to be nominated for a Canada Excellence Research Chair. However

  1. they may not be nominated by the institution at which they currently hold their appointment, and
  2. there must be a demonstrated net benefit to the country of moving the researcher from one Canadian institution to another

For full eligibility requirements, visit the CERC eligibility guidelines.

Research Security

Brock University is committed to safeguarding research and innovation from risks such as theft, interference, and the unauthorized transfer of knowledge.

As part of the 2026 Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) competition, institutions must comply with the Government of Canada’s Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern. All applications will be assessed for potential security risks as part of the national review process.
