On June 24, Goodman Group wrapped up a powerful two-day executive education program with a cohort of 22 professionals from the Health Promotion team at Niagara Region.
The experience began with a focus on strengths-based leadership, where participants explored their unique talents using the CliftonStrengths assessment. What followed was a rich exchange of personal reflections and spontaneous discussions that brought self-awareness to the forefront. The session reminded everyone how understanding ourselves and each other can profoundly impact how we collaborate and lead.
And the learning went even further: participants then engaged in a series of hands-on, thought-provoking activities, including a jigsaw puzzle challenge with a twist. Teams worked together to solve puzzles, only to discover…something unexpected. Rather than giving up or waiting, the first team to finish immediately extended support to others. This powerful moment of selflessness and compassion exemplified the kind of leadership the program aims to inspire collaborative, empathetic and team driven.
The session culminated in an Everest computer simulation, where participants had to navigate high-pressure scenarios with conflicting goals and limited information. It tested their decision-making, communication and ability to apply what they had learned about team development from forming and storming to performing and adjourning.
“This interactive approach was way more challenging than I expected. It made us pull out our analytical skills. It really allowed us to explore our team development stages and apply those as we move forward in our workplaces.” – said Tara Wincott, Manager of Health Promotion at Niagara Region.
Throughout the program, participants not only deepened their leadership capabilities but also supported each other with vulnerability, insight and mutual respect. It was a truly cohesive and transformative learning experience. Congratulations to all the participants for completing the program!
