Goodman Group is delighted to congratulate the graduates of the 19th cohort of the NextGen Municipal Leadership Certificate program, which graduated on May 30.  This cohort welcomed 33 participants representing eight municipalities: City of Brantford, Township of West Lincoln, City of Port Colborne, Hamilton Paramedic Service, City of Welland, City of Niagara Falls, Town of Grimsby and Niagara Region.

The NextGen Municipal Leadership Certificate program aims to enhance the leadership capabilities of municipal professionals through a carefully structured curriculum delivered in a hybrid format. This approach ensures that participants can manage their existing responsibilities while gaining valuable new insights and skills. The program’s comprehensive content spans key areas such as leadership development, team dynamics, strategic planning, financial management, equity and inclusion, and virtual collaboration, all within the municipal context. By addressing these critical topics, the program prepares participants to tackle contemporary challenges in the municipal sector effectively.

Each participant brought unique perspectives and experiences to the program, enriching the learning environment for everyone involved. The diversity of roles and backgrounds—from financial management to community development—fostered a collaborative atmosphere where participants could learn from one another and build a strong professional network. This networking opportunity is part of the added value of the NextGen program, as it enables municipal leaders to share best practices and support each other in their ongoing professional journeys.

The success of this program is due in large part to the dedication of our 12 instructors and the unwavering support of the advisory committee. Their commitment to excellence ensures that the program remains relevant and impactful while highlighting the strong and enduring partnership between our community, the municipalities and Goodman School of Business’ Goodman Group at Brock University.

As these 33 graduates return to their respective municipalities, they are well-equipped to make significant contributions to their teams, organizations, and communities. The skills and knowledge gained from the NextGen program will help them lead more effectively, drive positive change, and address the needs of their communities with greater confidence and competence. Congratulations to all the graduates on their remarkable achievement!
