From the Dean’s desk: Chinese New Year

The Faculty of Education wishes our students and colleagues of Chinese heritage a happy new year. We are grateful for the outstanding contributions they make to our Faculty community, whether as international students or members of our faculty and staff.

With the assistance and support of the Confucius Institute at Brock University, we are continuing to engage in our educational programs in China and expand our academic and cultural collaborations with academic partners in China. We have been pleased to meet with Dr. Hongfu Chen, professor and Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, to discuss partnering opportunities.

A recent example of this collaboration is the 2018 Brock Maker Challenge. The Challenge brought together cultures and community stakeholders to promote creativity, teamwork, and resourcefulness in local classrooms.

Hosted by the Faculty, the Confucius Institute and BioLinc, the Challenge invited high school broad-based technology classes to submit their designs for the Institute’s float in the 2018 Niagara Grape and Wine Festival parade.

Each team focused on the theme of friendship between China and Canada and the twinning of the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival with the Chinese Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival, which both take place in the fall.

Pictured above is a performance by the Faculty’s own Chunlei Lu, Professor in the Department of Teacher Education, at the design showcase for the Challenge at Brock on Feb. 26.
